Baselworld 2017: Omega 1957 'Trilogy' 60th Anniversary Limited Editions — Seamaster 300, Railmaster, Speedmaster 1957. Live Pictures, Hands-on & Price.

One of the biggest releases this year at Baselworld 2017 and one that was quite polarizing is the new Omega Trilogy 60th Anniversary 1957 limited editions. This set of three vintage inspired watches with 'faux-patina' pays tribute to the three most iconic and legendary watches from Omega, all originally released in 1957. These three new watches that include the Seamaster 300, the Aqua Terra Railmaster and the Speedmaster, can be purchased individually —3,557 pieces each— or as a box set in a special limited edition Swiss Oak wooden box containing all three watches and an oily leather travel roll with three additional leather and NATO straps. Only 557 box sets were produced and according to Omega, all the watches are already sold out.

The Omega 1957 Trilogy 60th Anniversary Special Box

If sold as a set with all three watches, the Omega 1957 Trilogy 60th Anniversary set comes in a beautiful Swiss oak wooden box with the Omega Seahorse logo and the year 1957 on the top. Each box features a front plate individually engraved with the limited edition number for all 557 sets and contains a red vintage-inspired leather case where all three watches are stored, plus an oversized travel roll with three compartments for the watches, a strap changing tool, additional spare spring bars, three leather straps and three NATO straps. The oiled leather travel roll is rugged looking but nicely finished. For this three-watch sets, the watches are uniquely marked and each dial is printed with the word 'Trilogy' and the Limited Edition number. Additionally, each case back is engraved with “Limited to 557 timepieces”. Not sure how we feel about the 'trilogy' on the dials.

The Case, Bracelets & Crystal

Using a unique digital scanning technology, used by Omega for the very first time, allowed the brand to get the most accurate measurements of the cases and bracelets on the original 1957 historical watches. The digital scans along with the original sketches of these three vintage Omega watches, helped Omega design these new three tribute watches exactly like their predecessors from 1957. All three watches are cased in brushed and polished stainless steel cases with stainless steel bracelets that remain true to the original bracelets in terms of looks and proportions, but that have been updated for strength and durability. All three bracelets feature a retro-style Omega logo on the clasp and the easy comfort link adjustment as a nod to the modern aspect of these new timepieces.

For those purchasing the watches individually, here's what you need to know. Each watch is limited to 3,557 pieces and delivered inside a presentation box inspired by the original 1957 packaging, right down to the Seahorse on the lid, a retro logo and red corduroy lining. The individual presentation box contains two spare straps –one leather and one NATO—, as well as a strap changing tool. The Seamaster 300 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Master Chronometer is fitted with a 39 mm case, the Railmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition Master Chronometer with a 38 mm case and the Speedmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition with a 38.6 mm case. While the 60th anniversary Seamaster and the 60th Anniversary Aqua Terra Railmaster are fitted with a slightly domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on the inside, the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster stayed true to its heritage and is fitted with a hesalyte crystal. All three watches feature the Omega logo etched on the center of their crystals.

The Seamaster 300 60th Anniversary Limited Edition

The very first Omega Seamaster 300 was highly sought after, not only for its superb water-resistance, but also for its black dial, broad arrow hour hand, bi-directional diving bezel, and recessed triangular hour markers. Built for divers and underwater adventurers, it quickly became an icon of innovation and style. The 2017 model, based on the CK2913, features a 39 mm case, black aluminum bezel and retains the original’s Naiad sign on the crown, which back in 1957 was a mark of the watch’s exceptional water resistance. The Seahorse on the case back is drawn just as it was in 1957.  It is powered by the Omega Master Chronometer calibre 8806.

On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size, very comfortably and extremely vintage looking. The watch is water resistant to 300 meters and a tool watch in all the sense of the word.

The Aqua Terra Railmaster 60th Anniversary Limited Edition

A simple, practical, yet subtly elegant watch made to be worn to work. The double-case anti-magnetic watch was specially designed for scientists, technicians or anyone who worked close to electrical fields. The original’s unpretentious style has been carried over into the 2017 model, though the vintage indexes are slightly deepened to allow a stronger light from the superluminova filling. The watch is fitted with a 38 mm case and powered by the Omega Master Chronometer calibre 8806, which can resist magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss.

On the wrist, the 60th Anniversary Aqua Terra Railmaster wears slightly smaller than its actual size, very comfortably and extremely vintage looking. The watch is water resistant to 60 meters and a stunner in the metal. A simple looking time-only watch that comes with a huge vintage aura.

The Speedmaster '57 60th Anniversary Limited Edition

The original Speedmaster, called the “Broad Arrow” due to its distinctive hands, was not only the first Speedmaster but it was also the first chronograph wristwatch in the world with its tachymeter scale on the bezel as opposed to printed on the dial —a feature designed for the benefit of racing car drivers. On the new model, the font was redrawn to match the scale of the original 1957 tachymetric scale and the watch features a 38.6 mm case. Powering this new watch is the Omega calibre 1861.

On the wrist, the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster wears true to its size and simply perfect. The best looking of all three new Omega 60th Anniversary 'Trilogy' watches. A must have if you are a lover of 'Broad Arrow' Speedys at a fraction of the price of the real deal.
