Glashütte Original reveals the fascinating art of fine mechanical watchmaking with a new chronograph movement designed and hand-crafted entirely in its own manufacture in Glashütte, Germany. The new Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is powered by the new in-house automatic calibre 37-01 column wheel chronograph and available in two different metals with a case measuring 42 mm in diameter and 14 mm in thickness. These two watches are available in either platinum or 18K red gold. While the ref. 1-37-01-02-03-30 features a platinum case and a hand-finished silver dial with Roman numerals and tachymeter scale, the ref. 1-37-01-01-05-30 is fitted with an 18K red gold case and a lacquered silver grained dial with Roman numerals. Last week at Baselworld 2015, Glashütte Original presented a new version of its Senator Observer with a new dial featuring bright superluminova and in-house automatic calibre 100-14. The new Glashütte Original Senator Observer features a matte black grainy dial with white accents and Arabic numerals. Running seconds at 9 and power reserve indicator at 3 and large double date aperture at 6 o'clock. Although traditional observation watches were typically fitted with manual wound movements, the Senator Observer is powered by a self-winding movement. This new dial on the Glashütte Original Senator Observer is well balanced and a perfectly example of Saxonian watchmaking. The superluminova on this new dial is bright and long lasting. Fitted with a stainless steel case measuring 44 mm in diameter and 12 mm in thickness, the watch is classic and modern at the same time.

Along with the two other novelties we already presented you from Glashütte Original this year at Baselworld 2015, the PanoReserve and the PanoMaticLunar are getting new dials. The Glashütte Original PanoReserve is now available with a blue or a black galvanized dial depending on the metal. While the stainless steel reference is getting a strikingly beautiful midnight blue dial, the 18K red gold reference is now available with a gorgeous galvanized black dial. The Glashütte Original PanoReserve was originally launched in 2012 and up until now it only came with a silvered dial. For sure these new dial options will continue to drive excitement and sales of the brand.

The new Glashütte Original Senator Cosmopolite is not your average multiple travel time type of watch. Not only this new watch from the German manufacture sports the brand new calibre 89-02 but it also gives you 37 time zones taking into consideration quarter hour, half hour and three quarter hour time zones variances. This new timepiece —following the launch of the Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon in 2012— consolidates the ability of this Saxon manufacture at crafting spectacular timepieces from an horological feat standpoint as well as from a functional perspective. Fitted with a very nicely finished generous case with satin brushed and polished areas measuring 44 mm in diameter and a thickness of 14 mm, the beating heart inside this timepiece is a new in-house developed calibre. Fitted with the newly developed Glashütte Original Calibre 37-02 column wheel chronograph movement, this German manufacture presents the new Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date ref. 1-37-02. This new timepiece is a perfect addition to the Seventies line and a watch that we are loving right now. This new Glashütte Original watch is fitted with a perfectly square stainless steel case measuring 40 mm x 40 mm x 13.5 mm and a practical 12-hour chronograph. The Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date is available in three different dial options —blue, silver and anthracite— and with a stainless steel bracelet, a rubber strap or a Louisiana alligator strap. Since we didn't show it here, the alligator strap for the silver dial model would be black.
The perfectly balanced dial features a running seconds register with integrated power reserve indicator aperture at 9 o'clock, 12-hour chrono register via a small aperture at 12, 30-minute chrono register at 3 and the classic panorama date aperture at 6 o'clock.
The case features satin brushed and polished areas as well as rectangular pushers for the chrono. A very well designed case that even with the pushers it does not compromise the original design of the iconic Seventies model. The watch is fitted with a screw-down crown that makes this new model ideal for aquatic activities when fitted with the rubber strap.
Via the display case back, one can appreciate the newly developed Glashütte Original calibre 37-02. This new movement was entirely developed in-house automatic and combines the positive attributes of a classic column wheel chronograph with the advantages of a simpler, cam system chronograph featuring exceptional features like a central chrono seconds hand, 12-hour chronograph with flyback mechanism and an impressive power reserve of up to 70 hours when fully wound. Additionally, this new calibre features a new oscillation system that has no regulator on the spring for optimum isochronism.
On the wrist, be prepared to wear a watch that wears true to its size, solid and very comfortably. So far, our favorite combo on this watch is the one with the silver dial and black rubber strap ref. 1-37-02-02-02-33. You know we are suckers for rubber straps so this watch seems to be the perfect timepiece for this Summer and for those warm afternoons yachting in Saint-Tropez.

This time we decided to skip the long detailed review and focus on sharing some nice live pictures of this flawless vintage inspired timepiece. The Glashütte Original Sixties Square Chronograph ref. 1-39-34-02-32-04 is a timepiece that truly transports us back to the 1960s and the Mad Men era. With its perfectly square cushioned shaped case in stainless steel measuring 41.35mm by 41.35mm and its black domed galvanized dial, this 30-minute chronograph clearly evokes the early days of GUB and its transformation into Glashütte Original with the first Spezimatics and Spezichrons.
This exceptional example of Saxonian watchmaking is powered by the Glashütte Original automatic calibre 39-34 composed of 51 jewels and which provides a power reserve of 40 hours while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph. Glashütte Senator Chronometer Regulator in 18K White Gold
A 'régulateur' a.k.a. regulator, is a watch with non-coaxial hour and minute hands, which means, that the hour and minute hands do not share the central pinion position on the dial but are independently placed. On regulators, the minute hand is traditionally the most important hand and it is typically placed on the central pinion at the center of the dial. The new Senator Chronometer Regulator presented at Baselworld 2013 features a very well balanced silver-grainé dial that is not only beautiful but very easy to read. The dial features a Panorama Date aperture at 3, running seconds small dial at 6, hours small dial with Roman numerals and day/night indicator at 12 and power reserve indicator at 9 o'clock.
This exceptional timepiece in 18K white gold —also available in 18K red gold— measuring 42mm in diameter is fitted with a gorgeous semi-matte black alligator strap with folding clasp. The beating heart inside this watch is the manual-wound Glashütte Original calibre 58-04 with 58 jewels and which provides a power reserve of 44 hours and 40 minutes when fully wound. One great thing about this calibre, is that it is fitted with three very interesting features. The first one is a day/night indicator —from 6 in the morning until 6 in the evening, the small circle in the region of the hour display is white; from 6 pm until 6 am it is black— to ease the time setting. The second feature is the now traditional second-zero-stop-mechanism that when the crown is pulled out to adjust the time, the second hand jumps to zero and remains there. Lastly, the third feature of this calibre is a minute-to-minute adjustment where once the crown is pulled out to adjust the time, the minute hand is moved from one minute marker to another for exact adjustment of the time.

The PanoInverse XL from Glashütte Original was the first watch from this manufacture to reveal its inner beauty by bringing an extraordinary element from the interior to the visible surface of the watch by showcasing the double swan-neck fine adjustment in full splendor against the anthracite colored plates and bridges. The individual components are treated in a galvanic bath to give them a black rhodium-plated surface, which serves to highlight clearly and effectively such characteristic features as the screw-mounted gold chatons and the double swan-neck fine adjustment with hand-engraved balance cock.
The anthracite colored plates along with the off-centered hour and minute dial, the small seconds sub-dial, the power reserve indicator and the double swan-neck fine adjustment, create a mosaic of elegance that is just extraordinaire. This exceptional timepiece is available in stainless steel or 18K red gold in a case measuring 42mm in diameter that comes fitted with a gorgeous dark grey alligator nubuck strap in the case of the stainless steel model and brown alligator nubuck for the 18K red gold version. Glashütte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar in Stainless Steel
The Glashütte Original Senator Perpetual Calendar is another one of those perpetual calendar watches that comes with a very reasonable price tag and great value for your money in a timepiece with superb craftsmanship and great pedigree. For your peace of mind, this watch will not need adjustment Until March 1, 2100, when the next secular year of the Gregorian calendar is taking place. This watch is fitted with a very elegant silver-grainé dial with Roman numerals chapter railroad ring, a day aperture at 10, a month aperture at 2, a Panorama Date at 4, a moon-phase indicator at 8 o'clock and a discreet leap year indicator that shows a red dot to indicate a leap year, followed by yellow, black and white dots for successive years. On the black dial versions, the phases of the moon are revealed by a black disk adorned with silver stars and a radiant silver moon, while the silver dial models like the one we are featuring here, comes with a silver moon on a blue disk.
This great looking watch in a stainless steel case measuring 42mm in diameter is fitted with a gorgeous black alligator strap that rounds out the elegant look of it. Glashütte Original Senator Flying Tourbillon in 18K White Gold
Also presented earlier this year as one of the manufacture's novelties for Baselworld 2013, this fascinating timepiece comes equipped with a Flying Tourbillon at 6 and the distinctive panorama date at 12 o'clock. While the traditional tourbillon mechanism is designed to counter the effect of gravity on rate precision and is anchored at both the top and the bottom, the flying tourbillon —created by Alfred Helwig— features a cantilevered mechanism anchored on one side only, which led to it becoming known as a ‘flying’ tourbillon. The balance, pallet lever, and escape wheel are housed in a cantilevered carriage that turns 360 ° once a minute, thus neutralizing rate deviations of the balance due to gravity.
The matte dark grey-grainé dial along with the tourbillon, the date aperture —with white font—, the Roman numerals in a milled railroad chapter ring and the white gold 'poire' hands creates the perfect symphony in a superb timepiece that is not only elegant but a fascinating example of Saxonian watchmaking. This exceptional timepiece in 18K white gold comes with a case measuring 42mm in diameter and equipped with a gorgeous dark grey alligator nubuck strap with folding clasp. The Glashütte Original Senator Observer ref. 100-14-05-02-04 is one of the most classic looking timepieces from this manufacture from Saxony, Germany. The Senator Observer is a watch that takes its inspiration from the observation watches made at Julius Assmann's Glashütte atelier. This stainless steel watch is fitted with a case measuring 44mm in diameter, a display case back and a lacquered silver grained dial with black Arabic numerals featuring a running seconds register at 9, power reserve indicator at 3 and the iconic Glashütte Original Panorama date aperture at 6 o'clock. To complete the elegant look of this timepiece, the watch is fitted with blue anodized hands that provide the perfect contrast against the off-white looking dial and a perfect match to the black alligator strap with deployant buckle.

The Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar ref. 90-02-43-32-05 from the Art & Technik collection, is perhaps one of the most representative timepieces from this manufacture and a great example of its essence, design and craftsmanship.
This PanoMaticLunar in stainless steel, comes in a 40mm case with a galvanized ruthenium dial featuring an off-centered hour and minute sub-dial with interlocking small seconds, the traditional panorama date at 4 and a moon phase aperture at 2 o'clock. The gray-brownish color of the dial is striking and the perfect setting for the contrasting rhodium applied markers and the silvered moon phase disc —the moon phase disc can become somewhat too reflective and hard to appreciate under bright light, but not necessarily a deal breaker. The white gold hands on this watch are partially inlaid with superluminova offering good visibility under low light conditions.
One fascinating thing about this galvanized ruthenium dial, is that its unique color provides the most interesting color variations all the way from graphite gray to a milk chocolate brown.
This watch features a gorgeous gray Louisiana alligator strap with nubuck finish and is fitted with a deployant buckle. The strap is extremely supple, comfortable and well crafted. Even though the PanoMaticLunar is waterproof to 50 meters, we really wouldn't recommend getting this lovely strap wet and ruining it.
The PanoMaticLunar comes with a screwed display case back that offers a fantastic full view of the gorgeous Glashütte automatic calibre 90-02. This calibre is exquisitely finished featuring a beautifully decorated off-centered skeletonized rotor, a duplex swan-neck fine adjustment, a hand decorated balance bridge and 47 jewels. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph —equivalent to 4 Hz— and provides a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound.
The biggest downside for those with big fingertips is the crown size. While it is not very difficult to operate once it's been pulled out, for those watchlifestylers with big fingertips, it will be slightly challenging to pull it out. For ease, the moon phase is set via a push piece located above the crown on the side of the case.
The watch wears slightly bigger than its actual size —more like a 42mm— but very comfortably. Its wrist presence is unparalleled and a perfect match to any type of outfit.
