Introducing: Montblanc 1858 Iced Sea Automatic Date. A True Diving Watch that Meets the ISO 6425 Norm.

When it came to imagining a new sports diving watch, Montblanc didn’t go to the world’s tropical waters for inspiration, but rather climbed up to the glacial lakes of the Mont Blanc Massif. Ascending via the Chamonix Valley to the Mer de Glace —Sea of Ice—, the Maison’s designers were captivated by the texture of the glacial ice with its interlocking network of crystals that have been frozen in time for millennia.

Watches & Wonders 2020: Montblanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph Limited Edition 1858

The Montblanc 1858 Monopusher Chronograph is one of the technical pillars of the Maison. In this new version, Montblanc reinterprets a historical Minerva chronograph with its calibre 13.20 from the 1930s. Like on the original timepiece, the 1858 Monopusher Chronograph features a black dial with a beige-colored railway track, as well as two counters at three and nine o’clock.

Watches & Wonders 2020: Montblanc 1858 Geosphere Blue

The Montblanc 1858 line features sporty vintage timepieces inspired by the trend for reconnecting to nature and the Montblanc heritage. Design and product codes take their inspiration from Minerva 1920s and 30s military chronographs. This year Montblanc is presenting a new blue theme, as a nod to glaciers and snowy mountain environments. Blue colors combined with icy white elements, creating a very cold and modern tool-watch look.

News: Presenting New Montblanc 1858 Split Second Chronograph Limited Edition

Like on the original timepiece from Minerva from which it takes its inspiration, the new Montblanc 1858 Split Second Chronograph features a telemeter scale that runs around the dial, which was a typical feature on the legendary Minerva chronographs. A telemeter makes it possible to measure the distance of a phenomenon which is both visible and audible, like the lightning and thunder in a storm. The chronograph hand starts at the instant the phenomenon is seen —for instance lightning— and then it is stopped when the sound is heard —thunder. The position on the scale shows at first glance the distance in kilometers separating the phenomenon from the user from the storm, in this particular example.

Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie Exo Tourbillon Rattrapante. Hands-on with of the Most Complicated Watches From Montblanc.

Released in January of 2017 at the SIHH in Geneva, the Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Rattrapante in a limited edition of 8 pieces is one of the most complicated and most expensive watches from Montblanc. Combining Montblanc's patented ExoTourbillon with a monopusher split-seconds chronograph, the beating heart inside this watch is of course a Minerva movement from Villeret. During the 1930s, the workshop’s fascination with recording elapsed time led to the production of split-seconds stopwatches, also known as “rattrapante” chronographs, from the French word “to catch up”.

The pinnacle whisky of the House of Walker — it is the epitome of blending—, just like the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph —reviewed here— is one of the pinnacles of Montblanc timepieces. Created to reflect the style of whiskies in the early 19th century, Johnnie Walker Blue Label is created using some of the rarest casks from the Johnnie Walker stocks, the largest in the world. The casks are hand-selected and set aside for their exceptional quality, character and flavor. Experience: Porsche Design P'3635 Lighter. Our Fellow Cigar Smoking Companion.

After our recent post on the Cohiba Maduro 5 Mágicos, we received questions from our readers regarding the lighter that was used. Therefore, we decided to put together this post to tell you everything about it.

If you are a regular reader of our website, you are definitely someone that appreciates sleek design and the finer things. This Porsche Design P'3635 torch lighter has been with us for a while now and has been a very reliable companion when smoking some of the finest Habanos and other non-Cuban cigars along our journey enjoying the good life. This lighter is part of the P'3600 Porsche Design smoking accessories line.

While we know that many of you are purists when it comes to lighting up your cigars and you would never use anything other than a box of wooden matches, it is now proven that using a jet flame lighter like this one will not ruin your cigars or affect their 'bouquet' at all.

This sleek and modern Porsche Design P'3635 lighter is thin, compact, elegant, lightweight and quite a conversation piece. We decided to feature it along with this wonderful Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph ref. 102337 reviewed here because this watch is sleek and advanced in design just like the lighter.

The Porsche Design P'3635 features a very reliable patented circular flame jet that will work very well even in the windiest conditions —just like the ones we have here in the 'Windy City'.

The lighter is composed of two panels connected with four hexagonal screws that house the modern quartz piezo ignition mechanism and the trogamid tank and is also fitted with a small fuel level window on its profile. The lighter holds up to 1.0 ml of butane gas. One thing that we also love about this lighter is that the fold away cover on the ignition button has a beautiful 'tapisserie' pattern that reminds us of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak dials. I guess we can't stop thinking about watches for a minute.

Of all lighters we've used in the past including Dunhill and S.T. Dupont, this Porsche Design is one of our favorites due to its understated look and sleek appearance. It also available in a variety of colors and finishes including bog oak wood, gray, silver pearl, black, navy blue and titan.

Insider: Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph. Nice and Well Crafted Like the Pens.

Watchlifestylers know that the Montblanc name is synonym of top quality and finely crafted writing instruments. Montblanc, along with other names like Montegrappa, Caran d'Ache, Cartier, Dunhill and S.T. Dupont, makes the list of the finest pen makers.

Now, when it comes to watches, sometimes it is hard for us watchlifestylers to admit that Montblanc puts the same relentless effort and care into creating refined timepieces and sophisticated complications as it does with pens; however, the Montblanc ref. 102337 Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph is a perfect example of refined watchmaking in a well crafted and beautiful watch. This is an ingenious way of honoring the French watchmaker Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec.

The Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph comes with a highly polished stainless steel case measuring 43 mm wide, an anti-reflective double coated sapphire crystal and the automatic Montblanc Calibre MB R200 with 40 jewels and a power-reserve of approximately 72 hours.

This monopusher chronograph features a matte anthracite colored dial with an applique hour circle with black Arabic numerals, date display, second time zone hand with day/night display at 9 o'clock, rotating chronograph registers at 5 and 7 —seconds and 30-minute respectively— and a 'Côtes de Genève' pattern on the lower part.

The chronograph is activated, stopped and reset by one single pusher located at 7 o'clock. Once the pusher is activated, the rotating disc at 7 o'clock starts to move indicating the seconds, while the 30-minute rotating disc at 5 keeps track of the minutes. Both registers feature anodized blue hands and black track numbers.

The second timezone function on this watch is controlled via an independent hour-hand and a 24-hour anodized blue hollow hand. The date is set by advancing the independent hour-hand. The watch features a pull-out crown that is not very easy to pull because of the design of the case.  The watch comes with a black alligator strap with a double-folding clasp.

The craftsmanship of this watch is superior and every detail on it has been meticulously taken care of from the rotor with the Montblanc star logo carved out to the 'Côtes de Genève' pattern on the lower part of the dial to the perfectly engraved case back.

This watch is not only beautiful but a true horological masterpiece honoring a great watchmaker.

If you want a watch to match that Montblanc Meisterstück LeGrand ballpoint pen you've been using since 1990, then you need to get your funds ready and get one of these beautiful watches.
