W&W 2025: Cartier Privé Tank à Guichets Platinum Limited Edition with Oblique Apertures (Live Photos)

For Watches & Wonders 2025, Cartier revisits and brings back the Tank à Guichets within its Privé collection and makes the watch available in 18K yellow gold ref. WGTA0234, 18K rose gold ref. WGTA0235 or platinum ref. WGTA0236. Additionally, Cartier presented a 200-piece limited edition model in platinum with oblique apertures ref. WGTA0237 and we have our hands-on review of it here.

The new limited edition Cartier Privé Tank à Guichets with oblique apertures in platinum features a solid case construction—fully satin-brush finished—measuring 37.6 mm by 24.8 mm and a slender profile of only 6 mm thick, the watch has a very unique look with its winding crown at 12 o’clock and its two apertures displaying the jumping hours and the dragging minutes on the front of the case. The hours and minutes are in garnet red offering a clear differentiation between this model and its regular production siblings.

The new Cartier Privé Tank à Guichets Platinum Limited Edition features a particularly interesting design element with its oblique apertures, which represent a distinctive evolution from the historical models.

On this contemporary limited edition, the two windows are positioned obliquely—at an angle—rather than parallel to the case edges. This diagonal arrangement creates a dynamic visual tension across the otherwise minimalist platinum face. The jumping hours’ aperture is positioned toward the upper left quadrant of the case, while the dragging minutes’ window appears in the lower right, connected visually by an imaginary diagonal line across the face.

This oblique positioning serves both aesthetic and functional purposes as it creates a more balanced visual composition across the solid platinum case and it makes reading the time slightly more intuitive by placing the windows in a more natural eye-scanning pattern, it also adds a subtle modern twist while respecting the historical DNA of the original design. The apertures themselves feature polished angled frames that catch the light differently from the satin-brushed platinum case creating a pleasing contrast.

The new Tank à Guichets Platinum Limited Edition watch is powered by the Cartier manual 9755 MC movement, a calibre with jumping hours and dragging minutes, crafted exclusively for this timepiece. The watch features a solid case back and is equipped with a black alligator strap with tone-on-tone stitching and is secured by a pin buckle.

The rectangular case follows the classic Tank proportions but tends to wear slightly larger than its dimensions might suggest. This is partly psychological—the minimalist face draws more attention to the case itself. Vintage models were typically around 25-26 mm wide—excluding crown— and about 36 mm lug-to-lug, but they command more visual attention than these measurements might suggest.

On the wrist, the Tank à Guichets has a substantial presence due to its solid dial and case construction. The Cartier Privé Tank à Guichets offers a distinctive wearing experience that sets it apart from both traditional Tank models and other luxury watches. The watch sits relatively flat against the wrist, following the ergonomic curve that Cartier is known for. What's particularly unique about wearing the Tank à Guichets is the experience of telling time. Instead of glancing at hands, you read the actual numerals through the apertures.
