One of our top five watches this year at Watches & Wonders 2025 without a doubt is the new Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 available in a highly exclusive limited edition of 10 pieces. The Reverso Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 represents the pinnacle of watchmaking artistry, combining Jaeger-LeCoultre's revolutionary multi-axis tourbillon with exceptional craftsmanship. The centerpiece is the mesmerizing Gyrotourbillon—a complex 123-component structure that appears to float between the watch's front and back dials, its movement enhanced by reflections from a polished blue lacquer disc.
Providing a visual spectacle of the greatest proportions, the magnificent Flying Gyrotourbillon is elegantly supported by a precision ring of ball bearings. This masterpiece features dual-axis rotation with different speeds: the inner cage completes a full rotation every 16 seconds, while the outer cage rotates once per minute, making it the fastest Gyrotourbillon ever created. The intricate Gyrotourbillon mechanism comprises 125 meticulously crafted components.
To achieve exceptional accuracy, the inner cage is constructed from lightweight titanium. The timepiece features a semi-spherical balance wheel with a distinctive double anchor-shaped Gyrolab design, engineered specifically to reduce air friction and enhance performance.
The sophisticated Duoface complication allows for the display of different time zones on each side. The reverse face includes a 24-hour indicator for the second time zone. The 60-second rotation of the Gyrotourbillon serves a practical purpose by providing a seconds indicator on both sides of the timepiece.
The decorative plates and bridges are precisely hand-lacquered by hand with 200 precisely hand-filled laser engraved hollows, then delicately hand-polished and beveled as a final step. This art is only mastered by three craftsmen at the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture.
This exceptional timepiece, limited to just 10 pieces worldwide, measures 51.1 x 31 mm and is cased in 18K white gold. It embodies the collaborative excellence of the 180 specialized crafts united under one roof at the Manufacture Jaeger-LeCoultre.
The 18K white gold case contrasts beautifully with hand-applied dark blue lacquer that adorns the calibre plates, bridges, and dials on both sides. The extraordinary attention to detail is evident in the meticulous hand-finishing—approximately 14 hours are dedicated to beveling the Gyrotourbillon cage alone.
The fully skeletonized Calibre 179 reveals the intricate inner workings of the movement, with dial and calibre plates reduced to their minimum for an ethereal aesthetic. The Art Deco-inspired design offers two distinct faces within the innovative Reverso swiveling case—one showcasing decorative craftsmanship and the other highlighting technical ingenuity. This manual wound movement is composed of 382 parts and when fully wound the movement provides a power reserve of 40 hours. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Hybris Artistica Calibre 179 is delivered on a black alligator strap with a technical buckle composed of its very own mechanism and 46 components. The buckle is adjustable to 0.5 mm and is made of solid 18K white gold weighing close to 30 grams.
