From the Editor: Why is the New Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date My Favorite Novelty from Watches & Wonders 2023
The moment I laid eyes on the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date I simply loved it. Not only the watch sports one of my favorite dial colors but it is also one of my favorite complications that screams Vacheron Constantin all the way. Additionally, I love that the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Moon Phase Retrograde Date marks the first sports watch and the first Overseas to be equipped with a retrograde display.
W&W 2023: Vacheron Constantin Overseas Date 34.5 and 35 mm Sizes (Live Pics)
Two new sizes join the Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection. The two new Overseas Date models are available in 34.5 and 35 mm cases. A total of four references in stainless steel and in 18K 5N pink gold with gemset versions in 35 mm and non-gemset versions in 34.5 mm and with a sunburst blue or pink lacquered dial. These new iterations prompted the designers at Vacheron Constantin to revamp the silhouette of the case with a more slender appearance. Regardless that these watches are smaller, they are intended for unisex wearability.

A traditional set of complications with a modern watchmaking approach is what the new Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Tourbillon Retrograde Date Openface brings to the table. With its open-worked dial this new watch combines a tourbillon and a retrograde date allowing a perfect view of the architecture of the calibre 2162 R31 with its slate grey shade achieved by an NAC surface treatment.

The salmon-colored dial features a sunburst pattern and beneath the 12 o'clock hour marker sits a faceted Maltese cross in relief crafted in 18K 5N pink gold with sandblasted and polished facets. The two retrograde indications —day and date— are indicated by blued steel hands, while the hours and minutes are displayed by 18K white gold hands.

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin reference 4300V was first released in an all-gold version including a matching bracelet during Watches & Wonders 2020 in the midst of the pandemic and only in 18K pink gold. Later, it made its appearance in 18K white gold becoming one of the most understated and under-the-radar luxury watches from Vacheron Constantin that I personally lust for and love.
