It has been more than eight years since Watch Collecting Lifestyle launched as a website and four years since the first issue of its print magazine came out during the Fall of 2017. For this Sybarite Watch Guide, our Founder and Editor-in-Chief Halim Trujillo have decided to choose some of his favorite images and all the watches captured by him with original photography. This book is the culmination of what started as a crazy idea turning that turned into a livelihood.
This very high-quality hardcover photography book measures 13” x 11” and includes 214 pages of breathtaking images of watches taken from the perspective of a sybarite. For those of you that don’t know what a sybarite is, it is a person who is self-indulgent in their fondness for sensuous luxury. Pretty much any true watch collector that likes the finer things in life.
When we reflect on the true essence of watch collecting and how publications like ours —which by the way is the only publication truly started by an actual watch collector in 2013— impact watch purchases, we just can’t stop thinking about the importance of live photography and objective, unbiased watch reviews along with original content —for instance, we’ve never published the review of a watch without being able to do a live photography session with it.
After eight years, Watch Collecting Lifestyle has remained true to those core values. And just like on day one, when we didn't resort to any stock images to accompany a hands-on review or one of our original articles about the #watchlife —a hashtag created by WCL—, today, we continue to do the same and this book is no exception.
With 100,000+ original images captured, over 2,500 original articles published online and 10,700+ originally created posts on Instagram it was about time we created a book like this. Unlike other watch publications, there's not enough money one could've paid us to write one way or another about a specific watch, watch brand, luxury good, or anything else. Having said that, we also want to point out that all the liquor and other luxury goods we’ve used for the photo shoots are not gifts or samples received in exchange for media exposure.
The Sybarite Watch Guide by Halim Trujillo is being offered in a 120-piece limited edition run and once it’s gone it’s gone. Its cover is very supple as it features a matte finish image wrap in line with the first cover of our print magazine released at the end of 2017. The pages are nice and thick in a very high-end lustrous paper stock, not too glossy, not too matte just perfectly in between.
You can pre-order the book now and get it delivered in 4-6 weeks. The Sybarite Watch Guide comes with or without —your choice— a very modern sleek clear acrylic bookstand. The total weight of the book to give you an idea of its quality and paper stock is 1.880 kgs / 4 lbs 2 oz.
