The Perpetual 1908 is now available in a .950 platinum 39mm case with an ice blue guilloché dial. The hue of this dial is in line with the exclusive use by Rolex of ice blue dials on platinum cases. For this new Rolex Perpetual 1908, the brand has tapped into a more traditional watchmaking approach by decorating the dial with hand guilloché. The rice-grain motif on the dial is created via guillochage, yet the rosette-like design, centered on the small seconds counter at 6 o’clock, gives this watch exceptional personality. A tribute to the classic art of watchmaking infused with Rolex’s know-how and creativity.
Thanks to its pattern, the light bounces off the raised pattern, producing a variety of reflections with every movement of the wrist. Affirming its unique identity with elegance and finesse, the new 1908 is a visual masterpiece.
The Movement
The Rolex Perpetual 1908 Platinum Ice Blue Guilloché Dial is powered by the calibre 7140, a movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. This automatic movement delivers outstanding performance and is finished with Rolex Côtes de Genève —slightly different from traditional Côtes de Genève due to the slightly polished groove between each band of lines. Unfortunately, we do not have a live picture of the movement as we ran out of time during our appointment with Rolex.
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the Rolex Perpetual 1908 wears true to its size and impeccably. Regardless of its platinum construction the watch is not super heavy with a total weight of only 106.7 grams including its strap and buckle. The watch is delivered on a matte brown alligator leather strap with tone-on-tone stitching, and Rolex green calfskin lining as a discreet tribute to the signature color of the brand. The strap is equipped with a double folding Dualclasp in .950 platinum which, thanks to its carefully designed shape, always sits centered on the wrist. In terms of price, we feel that this watch is priced way too high for what it is.
