The DEFY Skyline collection by Zenith showcases a bold and modern interpretation of the brand's rich heritage in high-performance timepieces. Featuring a striking design that seamlessly blends technical excellence with contemporary aesthetics, the collection includes an array of materials such as titanium and ceramic, enhancing both durability and style.
With a vibrant array of dials and a unique angular case shape, the DEFY Skyline stands out not only for its impressive chronometric precision, powered by Zenith's high-frequency movements but also for its ability to capture the essence of urban sophistication. Each model reflects a commitment to innovation while maintaining the classic Zenith spirit, making it a compelling choice for both watch enthusiasts and casual wearers alike.
Let’s now go on with our hands-on review of the new Zenith DEFY Skyline Americas Edition ref. 49.9308.3620/56.I001 that comes with a black ceramic octagonal case with a faceted bezel, and a deep green sunburst-patterned dial with a rose gold-toned engraved pattern revisiting the emblematic Zenith four-pointed star. Sporting a matching black ceramic bracelet and an additional dark green patterned rubber strap —that is very easy to swap thanks to Zenith’s interchangeable strap system—, the watch is very versatile.
Things to Know About the Watch
The Zenith DEFY Skyline Americas Edition is a 100-piece limited edition watch —not individually numbered—, specially released for the Americas, and only available in said region of the world. The watch is equipped with a 41 mm black ceramic case that is quite light and well-crafted with a satin-brushed finish throughout and high-polished angles on the bezel and chamfers. The deep green sunray-patterned dial is a true chameleon that varies depending on lighting conditions going from dark green to more of a military green.
The four-point star pattern on the dial is engraved on the dial plate and finished with a rose gold coating. The dial on the Zenith DEFY Skyline Americas Edition is simple but intricate at the same time thanks to its eye-catching pattern. The dial features a date aperture at 3 o’clock and a running seconds indicator that indicates down to 1/10th of a second —decisecond— and decaseconds —increments of 10 seconds— which is the first of its kind in the watch industry. The seconds indicator makes a full revolution every 10 seconds and 6 revolutions every minute. The applied markers and hour and minute hands are rose gold-toned matching the overall aesthetics of the dial.
The Movement
Turning the watch over reveals the high-frequency automatic manufacture movement El Primero 3620 with the very first 1/10th of a second indicator. This highly advanced movement is composed of 219 parts and beats at a frequency of 36,000 vph to provide a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. The movement features a silicon escape wheel and lever and a special star-shaped oscillating weight that is fully visible via the display sapphire case back.
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the Zenith DEFY Skyline Americas Edition wears well and slightly smaller than its actual size and more like a 40 mm watch. While we are not the biggest fans of ceramic watches, this watch wears nicely on the bracelet more so than on the rubber strap.
Now, for the money, this is a great-looking watch that delivers impeccably in terms of its value equation. The Zenith Defy Skyline offers a striking presence on the wrist with its bold design and innovative materials. Its angular case strikes a balance between robustness and elegance, ensuring it feels substantial without being overly heavy.
