W&W 2025: Ferdinand Berthoud FB 3SPC.3 Pink and FB 3SPC.3 Black (Live Photos)

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Chronométrie Ferdinand Berthoud, the brand welcomes two new limited editions in platinum —makes its first appearance in this collection with a mechanical movement with a cylindrical balance-spring—within the FB 3SPC.3 model in 20 pieces each, featuring distinctive PVD treatments in pink—not so pink—and black. These treatments highlight the remarkable three-dimensional architecture of Calibre FB-SPC, where the main plate sits at the movement's core, framed by meticulously crafted bridges. This unique construction remains fully visible from both the dial side and through the transparent case back.

The FB 3SPC.3 model showcases a finely sandblasted salmon pink movement complemented by a velvet-finished silver-toned brass inner bezel ring and dial. Its elegant aesthetic is completed with facetted, diamond-polished 18K gold hands treated with blue CVD. The platinum case demonstrates the Maison's exceptional craftsmanship, requiring over 30 hours of machining and finishing for its 57 individual components. Polishing platinum demands extraordinary skill and patience, even compared to other precious metals.

At the 9 o'clock position, the three primary escapement components—the balance, pallet lever, and escape wheel—are individually showcased. This dedicated space allows admirers to appreciate the regulating organ's function and observe the cylindrical balance spring in motion throughout the impressive three-day power reserve.

Drawing stylistic and technical inspiration from a rare historical creation—the No. 26 decimal watch from Ferdinand Berthoud's Paris workshop—this timepiece honors the legacy established after Berthoud received his master of horology title in 1753. The watch specifically pays tribute to a creation signed by his nephew, Louis Berthoud. The COSC-certified chronometer manual wound calibre FB-SPC with cylindrical balance-

On the wrist, the Ferdinand Berthoud FB 3SPC.3 sits with a commanding presence, its 42.30mm platinum case striking an ideal balance between statement and wearability. Despite the substantial material, the thoughtful 9.43 mm profile allows it to slide elegantly under a cuff while maintaining the gravitas expected from such a prestigious timepiece.

The salmon pink movement or black one creates a perfect contrast against the polished platinum, catching the light from different angles as you move. Through the sapphire 'porthole' at 9 o'clock, the mesmerizing dance of the cylindrical balance spring becomes an intimate spectacle visible with just a turn of the wrist. The velvet-finished silver-tone inner bezel offers exceptional legibility, while the blued hands provide sharp, precise time readings with subtle flashes of color as they catch the light. The weight of the platinum case provides that unmistakable sense of luxury that only precious metals can deliver—substantial but never overwhelming, a constant reminder of the horological artistry adorning your wrist.
