This year Panerai focused their novelties around their Submersible line and released a dozen Submersible timepieces. While some of them were not linked to some sort of partnership or strategic alliance, there were others like the Luna Rossa that are the result of a collaboration with the 36th America’s Cup Challenger of Record. The new Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa comes with a Carbotech case measuring 47 mm in diameter and a grey dial featuring recycled old sails from the America’s Cup Luna Rossa AC75 team.
A diving watch in true essence, the Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa PAM 1039 is water resistant to 300 meters —1,000 feet— and its Carbotech case based of carbon fibers features a very unique texture and look, resembling wood grain with a zebra pattern. Enhancing the strong personality of this watch the unidirectional rotating bezel is also made of carbotech with black DLC titanium inserts to mark each of the 5-minute increments on it.
A red seconds hand along with a red tip on the 12-hour GMT hand evoke the signature color of the Luna Rossa Prada sailing team.
The new Panerai Submersible Luna Rossa PAM1039 is powered by the in-house Panerai calibre P.9010/GMT. This automatic movement with a bidirectional rotor and two spring barrels is capable of providing a power reserve of 3 full days. The movement is protected by a black DLC titanium solid case back with a gorgeous motif of the 36th America’s Cup Luna Rossa AC75 catamaran. The watch is delivered on a black rubber strap equipped with a brushed titanium pin buckle. Without a doubt one of our favorite three watches released by Panerai at the SIHH 2019. Now, as far as pricing, Panerai keeps climbing that ladder getting into territory that used to belong to much higher end brands, but regardless, this watch is stunning and very well made.
