The first time that Panerai released a case made out of Carbotech was in 2015 with the introduction of the Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 CarboTech 3 Days Automatic PAM 616. Back then, Carbotech was a remarkable new technical innovation by using a composite material based on carbon fiber, that was never before used in the world of watchmaking and a technology owned by Panerai. Then in 2017, Panerai released the LAB-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech PAM 700 with a 49 mm Carbotech case and powered by a totally new in-house movement calibre P.3001/C with a 50-year warranty.
Following the success of the Carbotech cases, Panerai released a handful of Submersible watches sporting Carbotech cases back in 2019. Today, Panerai adds yet another watch in Carbotech that is slightly similar in looks to the LAB-ID. The new Panerai Luminor Marina Carbotech PAM 1661 features a 44 mm Carbotech case paired with a black sandwich dial, powered by the automatic calibre P.9010 and equipped with a Sportech black strap with blue contrast stitching matching the superluminova on its dial. The case back is made out of black DLC titanium.
The new watch comes with an ultralight constriction like all other Carbotech watches and a total weight of only 96 grams. The watch is not a limited edition and sold through the Panerai authorized dealer and boutique networks.
