Omega’s passion for ocean exploration has been a driving force behind many of its most innovative timepieces. The Swiss brand’s timekeeping role at the world’s most famous regatta has led to the release of countless watches, designed specifically to meet the challenges of high-speed boat racing. OMEGA’s latest release continues this tradition.
Launched to mark the 37th America’s Cup, Omega is presenting the Seamaster Regatta fully equipped for life at sea. An instrument watch for sailors featuring both analogue and digital displays. Cased in grade 5 titanium and measuring 46.75 mm, the Seamaster Regatta is replete with invaluable tools, including a moonphase indicator, a chronograph, a sailing logbook, temperature gauge, accelerometer, 3 alarms, and of course a regatta race function.
For Omega’s President and CEO Mr. Raynald Aeschlimann, the new Seamaster is a timely addition to the brand’s impressive range of instrument watches.
“Our new Seamaster Regatta belongs to the same family of watches as the Speedmaster X33. It’s essentially a multifunctional tool that you can wear on your wrist. As its name makes clear, this is the perfect timepiece for sailors, and the timing is right for its release. The great boat race in Barcelona is sure to inspire sailors all over the world, and this watch is all about meeting their needs.”
The watch offers superb readability and reading a timepiece can be a challenge under sail, especially in turbulent seas, therefore, Omega has ensured the Regatta can deliver data at-a-glance. The watch’s unique dial has an LCD display with black markings on a white-grey background to show its multiple digital readings, as well as Diver 300M —inspired hour, minute, and central seconds hand, which can be cleared from the display when in backlit mode to increase the legibility of the digital readouts.
There’s little use having multiple functions to hand if the watch is difficult to operate while on deck. To help sailors navigate through the functions, the Regatta has four pushers, one in red and three in blue, all cast in rubber for ease of use at sea. And a sandblasted crown with laser-engraved Omega logo, operated with push and turn actions. In addition to its digital and analogue readings, the Regatta can provide a sailor with audio cues. Turning the watch over reveals a wave pattern case back designed along the principles of “Helmholtz resonance”. It has a resonating cavity to help increase the volume of the alarms which also serve multiple functions.
This raised case back is embossed with the distinctive 37th America’s Cup logo and engraved with the words ‘SEAMASTER REGATTA’ and ‘37th AMERICA’S CUP.’ Also engraved is the name of the watch’s brand-new multifunctional quartz movement: ‘OMEGA’s CALIBRE 5701.’
The Omega Seamaster Regatta America's Cup Watch comes in a commemorative blue box with red stitching to keep it safe and secure while on land.
To complement the dial, pushers, and blue polished ceramic bezel ring, Omega’s ultimate instrument for sailors is presented on an integrated blue rubber strap fixed with Omega’s patented Quick-Change system.
