For the third time Hublot and UK Football team Manchester United come together for a special limited edition watch. This special partnership started in 2009 when Hublot installed an H-shaped structure comprised of a 10 meter tower in the shape of an H —just like the one on the Hublot logo— that holds four clock faces with a diameter of two meters each, strategically located by the parking lot in front of the East Stand. Additionally, two other limited edition Hublot Manchester United watches were released before this one.
Considering the long standing partnership between the two companies, this watch is a particular treat for Manchester United fans that are true reds and which comes in a very limited edition of 250 pieces in 18K red gold with a titanium middle case measuring 48 mm in diameter. The Hublot King Power 'Red Devil' Manchester United Limited Edition ref. 716.OM.1129.RX.MAN11 is a very special watch as part of the watch features DNA from the actual Old Trafford stadium. If you look closely at the hour markers —these applied elements are a bit green in tone as they are actually made of the famous grass from the MU stadium.
As part of their continued efforts innovating and developing new materials and components, Hublot experimented with how to do this and finally came up with a process that involves freeze drying and then lacquering segments of the grass, making them almost look like "sod crystals."
The skeletonized dial is a real treat for the eyes and the 'red devil' mascot at 3 o'clock is the perfect Manchester United branding element on the front of the watch. The dial features a running seconds register at 9, a date aperture between 4 and 5 o'clock and a 45-minute chronograph —length of each half in a soccer match— indicated by a central hand underneath the chrono seconds hand and a 45 white marker at 12 o'clock.
The Hublot King Power 'Red Devil' Manchester United Limited Edition features the traditional elements of the King Power design with the six H-shaped black PVD titanium screws, the black composite resin bezel lugs, the angled lugs with H-shaped screws to fasten the strap, a red start/stop chrono pusher, screw-down crown and the iconic deployant clasp with the Hublot name on it. The watch is fitted with a very soft and smooth rubber strap with red inlay along the front.
The Hublot King Power 'Red Devil' Manchester United Limited Edition ref. 716.OM.1129.RX.MAN11 is powered by the automatic Hublot calibre HUB4245 with centrally mounted chronograph hands. The calibre is visible via the skeletonized dial but not through the case back, as this is a solid one with the Manchester United's logo on it.
On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size and very comfortably without being too heavy thanks to the combination of a middle titanium case with 18K red gold on top and bottom weighing less than 200 grams.
