W&W 2025: Grönefeld 1944 Tanfana (Live Photos). The First Ladies' Watch for this Brand.

The 1944 Tanfana marks the first ladies' model from Grönefeld. The Horological Brothers drew inspiration from their hometown of Oldenzaal, where the goddess 'Tanfana' once stood as a guardian of peace and harmony. The reference 1944 honors their mother Netty's birth year. While embracing new design codes and materials not previously seen in a Grönefeld timepiece, this watch maintains the exacting standards that have earned acclaim from watch enthusiasts worldwide. The 1944 Tanfana comes with a variety of strap options—from nubuck alligator to goat and ostrich foot to rooster foot—, however, pictured here on a beige nubuck alligator strap.

Things to Know About the Watch

The 37.5 mm diameter case—10.5 mm in thickness—in 18K 5N red gold features intricate shaping with multiple heights, combining various lines and curves to create areas of brilliance and shadow. This nuanced execution contributes to the watch's harmonious appearance. The crown features an aventurine cabochon that complements the dial. The 1944 Tanfana's case and pin buckle are adorned with 233 brilliant-cut diamonds weighing approximately 2.73 carats, adding an elegant sparkle throughout.

The aventurine dial is a glossy midnight blue material filled with glinting metallic inclusions. Its "Flower of Life" geometric motif‚ enhances visual depth and texture connecting to Sacred Geometry—an ancient discipline exploring the spiritual significance of natural shapes and proportions. Extended Lancette hands, common in Grönefeld timepieces, work harmoniously with applied trapezoidal indexes in red gold to display time. At the dial's base at 6 o’clock sits a distinctive display that replaces the traditional seconds’ hand with an animated floral motif, creating a mesmerizing moiré effect reminiscent of an endlessly blooming flower with the two blue patterns overlap.

The Movement

Turning the watch over reveals the gorgeous and flawlessly executed Grönefeld calibre G-06. This automatic movement is composed of 230 parts and 31 jewels, providing a power reserve of 56 hours when fully wound.
The movement features a 22K solid red gold oscillating mass that is finished by hand and that includes an 18K white gold insert with the ‘Tree of Life’.
