Insider: Hublot Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes Special Edition. Hands-on with Martin's Very Own Watch of this 30-piece Limited Edition.

Last month, while in Mexico City, we had the chance to hang out with Martin Fuentes who currently races with the number '07' for the Ferrari Corsa Racing team in the Pirelli World Challenge —a professional car racing series sanctioned by the Sports Car Club of America. Martin Fuentes is not only a really cool guy and a good friend, but he happens to be a perfect ambassador for Hublot in Mexico —not to mention that he is married to Hublot ambassador Jacky Bracamontes. Aside from being involved with Hublot, he is someone that is a true watchlifestyler that was already collecting watches before he became an ambassador for the brand. Just like us, he loves the good life as much as we do —just ask him about our night together at the exclusive 'Love Nightclub' in Mexico City.

The Hublot Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes Special Edition we are featuring here, happens to be Martin's personal watch and we thank him for letting us play with it and work on this hands-on review. The Hublot Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes is available in a 30-piece limited edition with a black ceramic and carbon fiber case measuring 45 mm in diameter. Fitted with a bright red leather strap with black rubber lining —sold with a red cotton canvas strap, a white rubber strap and a black alligator with red contrast stitching—, the combination of colors on this watch is definitely a very sexy one.

The Dial

As far as the dial goes, the Hublot Big Bang Martin Fuentes Special Edition features a black skeletonized dial with gold hands with red luminova and red accents and Arabic numerals for all even numbers. The dial is really nice and extremely legible with a simple layout that includes a running seconds register at 9 o'clock and a 60-minute chrono register with date aperture at 3 o'clock. If you like black watches with red accents, this is as good as it gets when it comes to a very sporty timepiece that is relatively quite exclusive.

The Case

The case, just like on all other Hublot Big Bang Unicos measures 45 mm in diameter and its tripartite construction features a black carbon fiber bezel with highly contrasting bright red gasket underneath it and a matte finished black ceramic case. The Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes Special Edition features the traditional round pushers that the Big Bang collection is known for with the top start/stop pusher in red to match all the other red elements on this watch. Additionally, the case features the interchangeable strap system that allows for a quick and easy strap change in a matter of seconds. All it takes is a quick press on the push piece located at 6 or 12 o'clock on the case to then release the strap and swap it. With all due respect to Audemars Piguet and without wanting to commit sacrilege, the overall look of the Hublot Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes reminds us a lot of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team ref. 26062FS.

The Movement

The beating heart inside the Hublot Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes Special Edition is the Hublot automatic in-house calibre Unico HUB 1242. This 38-jewel movement with a diameter of 30 mm features a flyback column wheel chronograph and a double clutch. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph to provide a power reserve of 72 hours when fully wound. The display case back features a beautiful logo with Martin Fuentes racing number '07' and the colors of the Mexican flag celebrating his descent.

On the Wrist & Pricing

On the wrist, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Martin Fuentes Special Edition wears true to its size and extremely sporty. This is by far one of our all time favorite Hublot Big Bangs and one that hopefully we'll get to own one day. If you are looking for an ultra sporty all black watch with enough red to make it pop, this is the way to go.
