While respecting the legacy of the iconic Laureato from 1975, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Rock draws upon the company’s vast experience, amassed since its inception in 1791. Employing high-tech know-how this Chronograph is cased in a strong and light, 44 mm blue Carbon Glass case referred to as Absolute Rock by the brand. The Laureato Absolute Rock models are an evolution of the classical Laureato. The dial features a sandwich-type construction, masterfully playing with depths and, in so doing, creating a fascinating and highly legible display.
Things to Know About the Watch
Measuring 44m in diameter, this new chronograph is housed in a case formed of a new material called Carbon Glass. Carbon Glass is strong and very light. Indeed, the Laureato Absolute Crystal Rock weighs just 94 grams. This high-tech material combines layers of carbon fiber and fiberglass which is subjected to high temperatures and pressure to form a homogenous material. Afterward, the material is milled into the desired shape. The resultant case exhibits a matte, slightly textured finish. Interestingly, the constituent layers create uneven strata within the material and are randomly aligned, making the appearance of each case unique, and each watch totally different thanks to the blue fragments that appear as some sort of marbling. The watch is fitted with a black titanium crown and black titanium pushers.
The dial features a sandwich-type construction —similar to that of Panerai watches. Comprised of an upper layer, perforated with numerous openings, it sits on a lower layer. The upper layer is matte black with recessed and snailed Chrono registers featuring white glossy transfers. Thanks to the layered construction of the dial, the baton-type indexes also appear recessed. This design cleverly plays with depths, enriching the overall appearance of the dial. Rounding out the design, a flange features a minute track to add to the readability of the dial. With running seconds at 3 o’clock, 12-hour Chrono register at 6, and 30-minute register at 9 o’clock, the date aperture sits discreetly between 4 and 5 o’clock.
The Movement
The beating heart inside the GP Laureato Absolute Rock is the in-house automatic calibre GP03300- 1058. Composed of 419 parts including 63 jewels, the movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph to provide a power reserve of 46 hours. The movement is protected by a solid case back with the Laureato Absolute engraving on it and the watch is water-resistant to 50 meters. It is relevant to mention that the watches are individually engraved but not based on their limitation.
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Rock Limited Edition wears very light and true to its size. In order to optimize wearer comfort, the watch is equipped with a black rubber strap featuring a fabric effect motif and blue contrast stitching. The strap is made from a specific type of rubber that delivers superior flexibility and strength when compared with traditional rubber.
