It’s been a while since we’ve written about Audemars Piguet considering all that has been going on with the brand, its allocation practices, and its nouveau riche clientele. However, during our last visit to Mexico City CDMX during the week of the SIAR 2024 —Salón Internacional de Alta Relojería— we were invited by our dear friends at Berger Joyeros who run the AP House for Mexico City. Wearing the legendary and ultra-rare Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Perpetual Calendar Chronograph ref. 25854TI turned this visit even better as it sparked wonderful conversations with the team at the AP House.
Located in the heart of Polanco —one of the nicest and wealthiest neighborhoods in the city— and adjacent to the Berger Joyeros iconic location at Av. Presidente Masaryk 438 —corner with Goldsmith—, the AP House is truly a sanctuary for AP lovers with what we think is the best terrace in the city.
Once you head in, this impressive AP House —nicer than NYC or others around the world— will greet you with the usual Le Brassus theme decor and its captivating scent. This theme embodies a design that marries tradition and modernity, reflecting the brand's rich heritage and horological craftsmanship. Located in the picturesque Vallée de Joux, the decor is inspired by the natural beauty of its surroundings and the historical significance of watchmaking in the region.
Once inside the AP House CDMX —by appointment only—, you are welcomed by a beautiful stone and glass display with watches and a dining area and bar that are simply exquisite. But one thing that sets this AP House apart from others we’ve visited and from AP Boutiques around the world is the level of service, attention to detail, and overall nice attitude from its staff all of course employees of Berger Joyeros —thankfully.
The interior showcases a sophisticated color palette, predominantly featuring wood, sleek metallics, and stone creating an inviting yet luxurious atmosphere. Unique artisanal elements, such as hand-crafted furnishings and bespoke lighting fixtures, enhance the overall aesthetic, immersing visitors in an environment that celebrates the art of watchmaking.
One prominent feature is the use of large wood paneling throughout in addition to the very high-end furnishings, a bookcase with an exquisite collection of books from Taschen and Assouline, interesting decorative pieces, stunning artwork, and a display that highlights timepieces and loops videos showcasing AP’s prowess in watchmaking.
The AP House integrates an interactive display presenting the brand's history and manufacturing processes as a fusion of traditional and contemporary design elements creating a dynamic space for customers to explore the world of Audemars Piguet while appreciating the meticulous artistry that goes into each timepiece.
After collecting Audemars Piguet's timepieces for almost three decades, we simply felt at home without the usual ‘attitude’ we’ve experienced in the past four years at every boutique or AP House we’ve visited. We thank the Berger family and Juan Carlos Suarez —now CEO of Berger Joyeros and former head of AP Latin America— for inviting us over and treating us to a beautiful time.
After exploring the main level at the AP House CDMX, we were taken upstairs to the terrace that simply knocked our socks off. This quiet terrace made us feel like we were not even in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the busy Masaryk Avenue in the heart of Polanco in Mexico City. This terrace where clients can even enjoy a barbecue or cocktails at the bar is indeed the nicest terrace we’ve been to in the city. The terrace includes a dining area, a kitchen that includes a full setup for barbecue, an outdoor living area, and a beautiful walk-up bar.
When you love AP and watches as much as we do, it is easy to get lost in a space like this surrounded by Audemars Piguet's magic. And that AP logo that lights up located in the corner of the terrace is pure fire and one that we could easily see at home one day.
During our time at the terrace with perfect autumn weather, we got to play with some very special watches including the Royal Oak Concept Split-Seconds Chronograph GMT Large Date ref. 26650TI.OO.D013CA.01, the Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph 1017 ALYX 9SM Limited Edition of 76 pieces in 18K white gold ref. 26238BC.OO.2000BC.01, and the new Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Extra-Thin 50th-anniversary ref. 16202ST.OO.1240ST.02 among others.
The AP House concept represents a unique and immersive approach to watchmaking, blending tradition with modernity. Established by Audemars Piguet, the initiative aims to create a space where enthusiasts, collectors, and casual observers can engage with the brand in an intimate and educational environment.
AP House locations, which can be found in major cities worldwide, and the AP House Mexico City CDMX being the first one in Latin America, serve as both galleries and gathering places. Each space showcases the brand's rich history, highlighting notable timepieces and innovations. The AP House often hosts exclusive events, workshops, and discussions led by watchmakers and brand ambassadors. These experiences allow participants to delve deeper into horology, understand the nuances of Audemars Piguet's timepieces, and connect with a community of like-minded individuals.
The design of AP House spaces reflects the sophistication of the brand, combining elegance with a welcoming atmosphere. This thoughtful curation encourages exploration and appreciation of not only Audemars Piguet's timepieces but also the broader world of luxury watchmaking. The AP House Mexico City CDMX is perhaps the best example of an AP House properly executed and flawlessly managed.
By fostering a dynamic interaction between the brand and its audience, the AP House concept reinforces Audemars Piguet's commitment to its heritage while embracing the future of watch collecting and appreciation. The AP Houses are open by appointment only. Thank you Berger Joyeros for your amazing hospitality and friendship.
