To celebrate its launch as the cornerstone of A. Lange & Söhne on October 24th, 1994, Lange has decided to launch the Lange 1 “25th Anniversary” limited edition watch. With its asymmetric dial, the three-day movement, and the first outsize date in a regularly produced wristwatch, the Lange 1 elicited enthusiasm when it debuted. A quarter of a century later, the instantly recognizable watch joined the roster of the 20th century’s great timepiece classics. That is why, despite its new movement, it has remained almost unchanged externally. This new Lange 1 marks the kick-off of the “25th Anniversary” series that will be unveiled by the brand this year with one new watch for the next 10 months of the year 2019. These 10 new models wil be dedicated to the most important milestones of the Lange 1 watch.
The Lange 1 was the first watch of the new era and has been A. Lange & Söhne’s undisputed icon for 25 years. The Lange 1 "25th Anniversary" features a deep-blue printed argenté —silver— dial with a recess and blue date numerals and hands. As with any other Lange, the details make the design and no corners were cut when it comes to the craftsmanship as you can see in the live pictures below.
Now while the front of the watch is simply exquisite, turning the watch over reveals the cherry on top of the cake with a hinged case back with an engraving of Lange’s headquarters, the german words for “25th anniversary” and the names of Günter Blümlein —savior and Director of JLC and IWC during the Quartz Crisis and head of A. Lange & Söhne during its rebirth and before all three were acquired by the Richemont group in 2000— and Walter Lange.
And then, just as if the engraved case back wasn’t enough visual treat, there comes the especially engraved balance cock with the outsize date with a “25” that symbolises the 25th anniversary. The manually executed lines of the new engraving pattern on the balance cock are blued for the first time and thus stand out with a particularly rich contrast.
Absolutely a great looking watch that is available in a limited edition of only 250 pieces.
