Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a special evening with Carl Suchy & Söhne to present their collection —especially the incredibly sporty Belvedere watch— to a select group of watch collectors in Dallas, Texas. Our gathering at Lyla —one of Dallas’ hottest spots located in the heart of uptown— turned into a charming evening, savoring Rioja red wine alongside an exquisite spread of Mediterranean dishes evoking an unparalleled sense of indulgence. The marriage of flavors from freshly baked bread, aromatic olive oil, roasted eggplant, and succulent pizza transported us to the sun-kissed shores of the Mediterranean.
As the sun set, the symphony of clinking glasses and gentle laughter intertwined harmoniously with the flavors of the food and the very charming looks of the Carl Suchy & Söhne timepieces alongside their exquisite Table Waltz clock —designed by renowned designer Rainer Mutsch—, creating a memorable evening for all of our guests.
The Table Waltz —a limited edition of 10 pieces— is a very modern-looking clock that boasts the 8-day power reserve in-house movement CS-T-1 and a clock that illuminates every room with Viennese splendor thanks to its silky matte black nickel-plated brass and sapphire crystal casing.
Exactly a month ago, we brought you our hands-on review of the Carl Suchy & Söhne Belvedere Danube —you can check it out here— and during our watch collector’s evening last week, we were able to finally enjoy in the metal the other two models —the Night with black dial and the Day model with white dial— in the company the Waltz No.1 collection in its different forms —the Day and Night, the Moll, and the Skeleton. Of course, the star of the night had to be the Belvedere with its impeccable rubber strap and unique way of indicating the date with a jumping aperture.
Carl Suchy & Söhne was founded in 1822 by Austrian watchmaker Carl Suchy and quickly became the most important watchmaking company of the Habsburg Monarchy. At that time Carl Suchy & Söhne’s watches were produced in their workshops in Vienna and Prague as well as a pocket watch factory in La-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. With the demise of the Habsburg Empire, the official watch Purveyor to the Royal and Imperial Court disappeared in the early 1900s, but in 2017, the brand was revived. Combining Viennese elegance with high Swiss watchmaking skills, the brand now produces its watches in Switzerland.
Our select group of watch collectors was often found perusing the exquisite timepieces on display during our watch event and making small talk with Robert Punkenhofer —Co-Owner of Car Suchy & Söhne. With a keen eye for craftsmanship, they carefully examined the intricate details and unique designs that adorn each of the watches brought straight from Vienna, Austria by Robert.
Conversations buzzed with enthusiasm as collectors shared their insights and knowledge, discussing the attributes and technicalities of the Carl Suchy & Söhne watches. Our event provided a captivating opportunity for collectors to immerse themselves in the world of Austrian/Swiss horology, fostering a sense of camaraderie and appreciation for the artistry behind each timepiece.
After a satisfying dinner in the company of these great-looking watches, there's no better way to extend the evening than with a pour of amazing Japanese whiskies like Hibiki 17 and Yamazaki 12 at the recently opened Columbian Country Club.
