The Urwerk U-100 was initially released in two distinct versions in September 2019 under the name Space-Time. The models included the Urwerk UR-100 Space-Time, launched as two limited editions of 25 pieces each. The first edition, called UR-100 Iron, features a combination of titanium and steel, while the second edition, UR-100 Black, is crafted from black PVD-coated titanium and black PVD-coated steel. The design of the Urwerk UR-100 was inspired by a 19th-century pendulum clock that was a gift to Felix Baumgartner from his father, Geri, a renowned clock restorer who has since retired.
After over five different iterations, Urwerk releases the new UR-100V Magic T 'Hunter Green', a striking timepiece that exemplifies the brand's innovative spirit and avant-garde design philosophy. Featuring a unique satellite hour display, the watch showcases an intricate mechanism where rotating hour satellites travel along a track, providing a new way to read time. The UR-100v's stainless steel case, paired with a matte finish and carefully crafted details, offers a modern yet rugged aesthetic. Its independence from traditional watchmaking norms reflects Urwerk's commitment to pushing boundaries while incorporating advanced materials and precision engineering to ensure reliable performance. This model serves as a functional timekeeper and a statement piece that embodies the fusion of art and horology.
With this state-of-the-art full-titanium variation —sand-blasted, shot-blasted titanium—measuring 41 mm in width by 49.70 mm in length with a thickness of 14 mm, Urwerk once again magnifies the technical and visual minimalism for which the 100V ‘Magic T’ line is renowned. Everything has been carefully designed and crafted from case to bracelet to capture the essence of the color and material.
The UR-100V ‘Hunter Green’ edition retains the essence of the UR-100 collection in perfect harmony between visual minimalism and cutting-edge watchmaking engineering. Martin Frei tirelessly plays with shapes to create a unique aesthetic language, while Felix Baumgartner reinvents satellite-type wandering hours. There are no traditional hands here. The hours’ satellite crosses a graduated arc to indicate the minutes. Once its 60 minutes are up, a new satellite bearing the next hour appears in a poetic and precise mechanical choreography.
“The UR-100V is like a blank canvas providing scope for infinite exploration. We're having fun with this collection, constantly rediscovering it through new expressions. ‘Hunter Green’ was an obvious choice. It's a living, breathing color that interacts with light and time.” says Martin Frei, Urwerk’s artistic director and co-founder.
Additionally, the Urwerk UR-100V doesn't just tell the time; it also features two unique counters: The first displays the 555 kilometers the Earth covers in 20 minutes as it rotates on its axis, and the second shows the 35,740 kilometers the Earth travels in 20 minutes as it revolves around the Sun.
The automatic movement powering this watch provides a power reserve of 48 hours when fully wound.
The Urwerk UR-100V Magic T ‘Hunter Green’ edition thus transcends its watchmaking function to become a silent witness to the Earth's trajectory in the sidereal vacuum, offering a new color exploration in Urwerk's epic and ongoing watchmaking saga. The watch comes on a Titanium bracelet with 32 sand-blasted and shot-blasted links.
