Proud sponsors of the Artemis Racing Team in the America's Cup sailing challenge, Ulysse Nardin is a brand that is very well know for their marine timekeeping heritage and their marine nature. As the perfect companion for those that enjoy sailing and especially those aboard the Artemis Racing team, comes the new Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta ref. 1553-155-3/43 —winner of the Sports Prize at the GPHG 2017— with a marine blue dial, blue rubber strap, and a convenient 10-minute regatta countdown paired with a 12-hour monocounter chronograph.
The Dial
Featuring a 44 mm stainless steel case and a marine blue dial that is a true chameleon depending on lighting conditions, the 10-minute regatta countdown at the center of the dial takes the center stage with its yellow indications that evoke the colors of the America's Cup Artemis Racing Team.
Superimposed over the regatta countdown at 6 o'clock, there is a very useful monocounter 12-hour chronograph —a complication rarely seen in conjunction with a regatta countdown but extremely useful when paired with it— with date aperture. Rounding out the somewhat classic look of the dial, applied markers and Roman numerals refract light in a symphony of elegance and sportiness.
The yellow accents on the regatta countdown along with the yellow tipped seconds hand and the yellow tipped arrow-shaped regatta minute hand, make for a stunning combination against the dark blue dial with its white minute track flange.
The Bezel, Crown & Strap
Following the traditional design cues of Ulysse Nardin, the Marine Regatta comes with a 44mm round case with a blue rubberized screw-down crown and blue rubberized bezel and pushers. The case is satin brushed finished with a few highly polished areas here and there and crown signed with the UN anchor logo. With a total of three pushers, the pusher at 10 o'clock allows the wearer to set the regatta countdown while the pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock are utilized to start, stop and reset the chronograph.
The Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta comes on a blue rubber strap with titanium element engraved Ulysse Nardin and with a rubber strap with titanium element and deployant clasp.
The Movement
Powering the Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta is the in-house Ulysse Nardin automatic calibre UN-155 with 55 jewels. This robust calibre provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph. This movement like all other recently released in-house movements by the brand, features silicium technology where the anchor escapement is produced using DIAMonSIL —Ulysse Nardin’s revolutionary alliance of diamond and silicon. Lastly, as it is now the norm, the oscillating weight features a blue UN medallion also made of DIAMonSIL.
On the Wrist & Pricing
On the wrist, the Ulysse Nardin Marine Regatta wears true to its size and extremely comfortably. With a very classic yet sporty look, we can see ourselves wearing this watch while riding on the Artemis Racing Team catamaran overlooking the clear waters of Bermuda at the final of the America's Cup.
