This year, Tudor presented several new models we liked. Among them is the first Black Bay 58 in 18K yellow gold ref. ref. M79018V-0006 with a solid matching bracelet also in gold. Equipped with a 39 mm case —12.7 mm thick— and an open display case back, this new Tudor is as good as it gets. With a satin-brushed finish and sporting a gorgeous matte grainy olive green dial, this new solid gold model is for sure one that will become a staple in the Tudor lineup.

One of the most notable releases at Watches & Wonders from Rolex is the new Deepsea in 18K yellow gold with a blue dial and blue cerachrom bezel insert. The new Rolex Deepsea Yellow Gold Blue Dial ref. 136668LB features a blue lacquer dial —the identical hue of blue as the ‘Smurf’ Submariners— bearing the name ‘DEEPSEA’ in powdered yellow. The dial features large Chromalight hour markers and hands, filled with luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow for excellent legibility in dark conditions.

As a big surprise, Blancpain and Swatch joined forces to release the Blancpain X Swatch Bioceramic Scuba Fifty Fathoms collection to celebrate the 70th anniversary of this iconic diving watch last month. While the collaboration between Omega and Swatch for the Moonswatch seemed to have a bigger impact than this new collaboration between Swatch and Blancpain —another one of the high-end brands part of the Swatch Group—, this non-limited collection composed of five different watches still had a huge impact, despite the fact that Blancpain holds a much lower brand awareness and you have to be a hardcore watch aficionado to even consider paying $400 USD for a Sistem51 Swatch.
From the Editor: Atelier Holgur Frømand. Dissecting the Latest Redefined Diving Watch.
Almost two months ago, Atelier Holgur —a new brand founded by Matthew de Bakker and Asbjørn Simonen-Andersen— presented the Frømand. Since I liked the look of the watch from the press pictures, I decided to ask for a prototype and do a proper review of it. The Frømand is a watch that tries to redefine the diving watch genre by adding certain ‘haute horlogerie’ features seldom found on diving watches.

Atelier Holgur is pleased to unveil the Frømand, a model that redefines the divers’ watch genre by encompassing many luxurious features seldom found on subaquatic-themed timepieces. The company looks at horology from a different perspective, keen to deliver quality and value with a responsible approach to commerce. The name Frømand is Danish for ‘frogman’ and it celebrates the military divers of yesteryear, however, the design language is contemporary, ideally suited to the here and now.

Honoring the brand’s first diving watch, Tudor just released the Black Bay 54 ref. M79000N-0001 with a 37 mm case that surprisingly wears slightly larger than its actual size thanks to the low profile of the case. The watch comes with a vintage aura that no other modern Tudor has and this watch feels like a big crown no crown guards Sub. The black dial with its gilt imprints looks vintage from every angle.
