This year, Tudor presented several new models we liked. Among them is the first Black Bay 58 in 18K yellow gold ref. ref. M79018V-0006 with a solid matching bracelet also in gold. Equipped with a 39 mm case —12.7 mm thick— and an open display case back, this new Tudor is as good as it gets. With a satin-brushed finish and sporting a gorgeous matte grainy olive green dial, this new solid gold model is for sure one that will become a staple in the Tudor lineup.
Just like the rest of the Tudor watches, this new model comes with a 5-year transferable guarantee with no registration or periodic maintenance checks required. The new Tudor Black Bay 58 Yellow Gold Green Dial ref. M79018V-0006 is powered by the Manufacture automatic calibre MT5400 —COSC— which provides a power reserve of 70 hours. Unfortunately, the prototype available had no movement inside but just a plaque with the movement information.
The Tudor Black Bay 58 Yellow Gold Green Dial is equipped with a screw-down winding crown also in 18K gold with Tudor rose in relief, a unidirectional rotating bezel in 18K yellow gold with 60-minute graduated disc in matte green anodized aluminum, and gold gilded markings and numerals. The watch is waterproof to a depth of 200 m —660 feet— and is equipped with a solid gold 3-link 18K yellow gold bracelet with satin finish throughout and an 18K yellow gold “T-fit” clasp.
On the Wrist & Price
Despite its solid gold construction, the new Tudor Black Bay 58 Yellow Gold Green Dial is not top-heavy on the wrist and it has a total weight of only 187.6 grams —without its movement and per the prototype we perused.
Based on our expertise, we believe that the total weight with the actual movement should be closer to 210 grams or so. As a reference, the total weight of an 18K yellow Rolex Day-Date 36 is approximately 195 grams.
As far as the price of this new watch, we feel that it’s quite steep considering that Tudor is Rolex’s younger sibling and the price for a Rolex Submariner in 18K yellow gold ref. 126618LN is USD 39,000. Had this new Tudor Black Bay 58 Yellow Gold had a 2 in front of its price, it would’ve been much better.
