The Rotonde de Cartier Chronograph was introduced at the SIHH 2015 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie two weeks ago and is definitely one of those watches that offers wonderful value for your money. Fitted with a perfectly sized case in stainless steel measuring 40 mm in diameter —also available in 18K white gold with blue dial, blue alligator strap and in a limited edition of 500 pieces— and with a classic looking silvered guilloché dial with Roman numerals and minute chapter ring, the new Rotonde de Cartier Chronograph is a true 12-hour chrono in all the sense of the word. Powered by the same in-house chronograph calibre 1904-CH that powers the Calibre de Cartier Chronograph, this watch offers excellent value for the money.
Its two-tone dial not only offers a very classic look for those that enjoy Roman numeral dials but also a well balanced layout that does not appear cluttered at all. Its outer minute track in silver gray tone is a perfect contrasting element to its elegant look. Fitted with a 12-hour chrono register at 9, a 30-minute chrono register at 3 and a handy date aperture at 6 o'clock, the new Rotonde de Cartier Chronograph is definitely a winner in this year's Salon. To round out the elegant look of the dial, the watch is fitted with blued Breguet hands.
Equipped with rectangular chrono pushers that wrap around the case band, its beaded crown set with a blue sapphire cabochon rises in full glory. The chrono pushers are very easy to operate and soft like butter to the touch.
Fully visible via the display case back, the automatic in-house chronograph calibre 1904-CH with 35 jewels and column wheel mechanism is a real treat for the eyes with its simply decorated oscillating weight and nicely done 'Côtes de Genève' on the bridges. The calibre provides a power reserve of 45 hours when fully wound.
On the wrist, the watch wears slightly bigger than its actual size and more like a 42 mm timepiece. The watch is fitted with a black alligator strap with folding clasp. Its timeless elegant look comes with guaranteed joy every time you tell time. For the money, this is a fantastic watch with strong character and with one of the most classic looks out there.
