Here we are now presenting you the second and last novelty presented by Richard Mille this year at the SIHH 2015 in Geneva. The new Richard Mille RM 51-02 Tourbillon Diamond Twister is a high jewelry tourbillon that takes all of its cues from the swirling form of a spiral comprised of diamonds emanating outwards the tourbillon in 14 rays as a spiral vortex like that of the milky way, paying homage to the meaning of the word 'tourbillon' in English that stands for 'whirlwind'. Each spiral ray of the new Richard Mille RM 51-02 Tourbillon Diamond Twister is perfectly set with flawless diamonds and black sapphires around the case. Fitted with the classic tripartite tonneau-shaped Richard Mille case in 18K white gold measuring 47.95 mm L x 39.70 mm W x 12.60 mm T, the bezel side and the case back had to be perfectly assembled around the middle case to prevent any damage to the black sapphires. The dial made of 18K white gold, features 270 diamonds in its twister and hour/minutes hands with luminescent tips.
Powered by the Richard Mille manual wound calibre RM 51-02 with a power reserve of 48 hours, the watch includes a very clever power reserve indicator between 10 and 11 o'clock —barely visible— with a printed red line on a moving disc right underneath the dial. The movement features a black onyx baseplate.
Additionally, the crown has also been set with three rows of diamonds and a big diamond to round out its look in an upside down position with its culet rising up in the air. The crown also features a torque limiting system to prevent any potential overwinding.
Its tourbillon located at 6 o'clock rises in all glory around the diamond twister complex skeletonized dial that allows for partial view of the calibre powering this watch.
Equipped with an elegant leather strap —almost satin looking— with the traditional Richard Mille double folding clasp, the watch also features micropavé diamonds on its clasp. Overall the watch looks extremely elegant and not kitsch regardless of its iced out look.
On the wrist, the watch wears true to its size and with impeccable elegance. A watch perfectly balanced that can be easily worn as a unisex watch. Kudos to Richard Mille on this year's novelties where the diamonds were the ladies' best friend and also congrats on their new website. It was much needed. If you have a million dollars to spare on your significant other or yourself, we can guarantee that you will be one of the few fortunate ones to be wearing this watch during the next gala night at the Wiener Symphoniker or at Lincoln Center.
This watch is only available in a limited edition of 30 pieces.
