Earlier this year, Rolex presented two new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18K white gold whose dials contrast white and black natural mother-of-pearl and a bezel set with brilliant-cut diamonds. One of the new models is equipped with an Oysterflex strap under reference 126589RBR, while the other one —which we have here— is equipped with a matching Oyster bracelet in 18K white gold under reference 126579RBR.
These reinterpretations achieve the perfect balance of precision and preciousness. A subtle interplay of hues reflects wide-ranging expertise, from gem-setting to the art of dial-making.
Equipped with a 40 mm case in 18K white gold the dial is white mother-of-pearl with black mother-of-pearl counters on the first watch, while the second watch features a color combination that is reversed with a black mother-of-pearl dial with white mother-of-pearl counters.
Things to Know About the Watch
The mother-of-pearl dial with its strength of contrast, the intensity of the colors, and depth of the reflections are the result of a particularly stringent material selection process. The mother-of-pearl discs are also positioned to further enhance the contrast between them.
The highly contrasting dial is made from natural mother-of-pearl and graced with eight diamonds and three Chromalight hour markers. Both varieties of mother-of-pearl are handled with the greatest care by the brand’s artisans.
This Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18K white gold, with a black and white mother-of-pearl, diamond-set dial, and an Oyster bracelet, features a diamond-set bezel. Throughout its history, the Cosmograph Daytona has appeared in various gem-set versions on which the emblematic tachymetric scale is replaced with diamonds or colored precious stones. This bold aesthetic returns on the new watches, which incorporate a bezel adorned with 36 brilliant-cut diamonds whose multiple facets create exceptional sparkle. On this gem-set version, the emblematic tachymetric scale is replaced with diamonds.
The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona ref. 126579RBR is powered by calibre 4131, an automatic chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Released in 2023, it was introduced on the model the same year and exclusively equips this watch. A distillation of technology, this self-winding mechanical movement delivers outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience, and reliability. It incorporates a chronograph function with a reduced number of components, thereby also enhancing the movement’s reliability and guaranteeing a power reserve of at least 72 hours.
By operating its exclusive foundry, Rolex has the unrivaled ability to cast the highest quality 18K gold alloys. According to the proportion of silver, copper, platinum, or palladium added, different types of 18K gold are obtained in three variations including yellow, pink —Everose—, or white.
The design, development, and production of Rolex bracelets and clasps, as well as the stringent tests they face, involve advanced high technology. And, as with all the components of the watch, aesthetic controls by the human eye guarantee impeccable beauty. The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function. First introduced in the late 1930s, this particularly robust and comfortable metal bracelet with its broad, flat three-piece links remains the most universal bracelet in the Oyster collection.
