Seven years after its redesign in 2016, Piaget integrated a mechanical perpetual calendar—a complication where the brand has established considerable expertise—into its iconic Polo collection in 2023. The Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-thin, powered by the new 1255P calibre, represents a significant advancement for this celebrated timepiece. Now, two years later at Watches & Wonders 2025, we were able to peruse a new iteration of the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin this time endowed with one of the most unique stone dials to ever come out of Piaget’s workshops.
Things to Know About the Watch
The new Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Green Obsidian in a limited edition of only 18 pieces—individually numbered—is equipped with a 42 mm case in 18K white gold housing a striking dark emerald-green obsidian dial with a date indicator at 3 o'clock, a month and leap-year indicator at 12, the day of the week at 9 and the small moon phase display at 6 o'clock. Rounding out the incredible look of this watch the bezel is set with 56 green emeralds—totaling approx. 0.19 carats—creating a true symphony of color and green hues.
Piaget has long been renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship with stone dials, which represents one of the brand's most distinctive artistic signatures in haute horlogerie. Even though only 18 pieces of this limited edition are available, something that makes this watch even more special is that no two dials are alike and each piece is truly unique. To provide better contrast and readability for the leap year indicator, Piaget chose to add a blue background to the white pointer disc, which is something that we don’t love as it clashes with the overall green look of the watch.
The Movement
Turning over the Piaget Polo Perpetual Calendar Green Obsidian reveals the in-house automatic Piaget calibre 1255P that builds upon Piaget's legacy of ultra-thin movements that began with the groundbreaking 12P in 1960—then the thinnest in the world with its innovative micro-rotor design. At just 4 mm thick, the 1255P calibre enables the entire watch to maintain a svelte profile of only 8.65 mm, despite its sophisticated perpetual calendar and moon phase mechanisms. This 238-part automatic movement with a blued micro-rotor provides a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound.
On the Wrist & Price
The Piaget Polo has adorned the wrists of notable figures including Ursula Andress, Roger Moore, Andy Warhol, and Björn Borg. This unisex icon emanates a distinctive character that embodies Piaget's spirit of sophistication and extravagance.
The Polo Perpetual Calendar Green Obsidian Limited Edition is delivered on a green rubber strap—as we photographed it—and with an additional alligator strap with double folding deployant—apparent pin buckle—strap. The quick-change strap system allows the wearer to switch between straps without the use of any tools. On the wrist, the watch wears remarkably well with a very impressive wrist presence. An absolute favorite of the recently released novelties.
