Another highlight from the nine new watches released in honor of Patek's “The Art of Watches Grand Exhibition New York 2017” from July 13th to the 23rd at Cipriani 42nd Street, is the new Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Watch ref. 5522A-001 New York 2017 Special Edition cased in stainless steel. This 'grand taille' watch measuring 42 mm in diameter comes in a 600-piece limited edition and features an exclusive dial reminiscent of vintage Patek Philippe aviator's watches. A successor to the highly controversial and super cool Patek Philippe Calatrava Pilot Travel Time ref. 5524G which we featured here, the new ref. 5522 is for sure one of those watches that will become highly collectible due to its stainless steel case and limited production.
Its inimitable blue color recalls the livery of American fighter planes in the 1930s. The large applied Arabic numerals in white gold and the broad baton hands in blued steel have a luminescent coating that assures excellent legibility around the clock. The brown calfskin strap with contrast stitching was inspired by the harnesses paired with classic flight suits. The stainless steel clevis prong buckle resembles the belt buckles that pilots used to secure their survival kits.
Powered by the automatic calibre 324 S which can be admired through the sapphire-crystal back decorated with the engraving “PATEK PHILIPPE NEW YORK 2017”, this new watch is a must have. This watch just like all other eight watches released in honor of the Grand Exhibition will be exclusively sold in the U.S.
