As much of a bracelet as it is a watch, the new Panthère de Cartier Figurative is one of the most unique timepieces presented by Cartier at the SIHH 2019. An 18K yellow gold bangle that opens up by twisting one of its sides with the iconic panthère on one end and a quartz watch on the opposite end, the new Panthère de Cartier Figurative is an absolute objet d’art —art object. Feminine, tasteful and exuberant are some of the words that come to mind when perusing this new timepiece in the form of a piece of jewellery.
With a striped pattern combining black lacquer and brilliant-cut diamonds set in a v-shape, the time is marked on one end of the bangle by a black lacquer dial with yellow gold hands. On the opposite end, the Cartier panthère rises in full glory with a diamond-set head with black lacquer spots, emerald eyes and black lacquered nose and ears.
The watch part of this art object is relatively small with a case measuring 18 mm in diameter and 8.5 in thickness. The watch is powered by a quartz movement and there’s no limitation in terms of pieces produced. Our guess is that because of its design and labor intensive gem-setting this would be quite exclusive and hard to get.
