The Dial
The Richard Mille RM 011 Automatic Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire' features a flyback chronograph, a 60-minute countdown timer and an annual calendar in what we think is a somewhat busy dial. The dial layout features a running seconds indicator at 3 o'clock, a monocounter 12-hour chrono register at 6 with hour and minute indicator, a 60-minute countdown timer indicator at 9 o'clock, a double date window located at 12 o'clock that displays the date thanks to a double sapphire disc system located at 10 and 2 o'clock respectively and a clever numeric month indicator located between 4 and 5 o'clock. The combination of black and red is perfect and extremely eye-catching. A vibrant shade of red sets off the hour indicators, flange and pushers, while white hands maximize legibility.
The Case, Crown & Strap
The Richard Mille RM 011 Automatic Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire' features a black ceramic bezel and case back. These ceramic components are blasted to provide a matte finish, then formed into the front and back bezels of the timepiece’s tripartite case. The center caseband of the Richard Mille RM 011 Automatic Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire' limited editon is crafted from NTPT —North Thin Ply Technology — carbon. Already used in the fields of aerospace technology, the manufacture of racing sales, and Formula 1 racecar design, NTPT carbon is incredibly strong and light, and composed of multiple layers of parallel filaments obtained by dividing carbon fibers. These thin layers are impregnated with resin and then woven on a special machine that modifies the direction of the weft, creating a distinctive visual effect that is reminiscent of precious wood.
The 'Midnight Fire' is designed in the traditional tonneau shaped case measuring 50 mm x 40 mm x 16.15 mm with a light construction weighing less than 83 grams. The Richard Mille RM 011 Automatic Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire' is presented on a black rubber strap with black DLC titanium buckle.
In addition to the center caseband, the Midnight Fire’s crown and pushers are also made from NTPT carbon. The crown also in NTPT carbon features a black o-ring.
The Movement
The beating heart inside the Richard Mille RM 011 Automatic Flyback Chronograph 'Midnight Fire' is the so-called calibre RMAC1. This calibre is an automatic winding movement, that heralds the brand’s first flyback chronograph. Crafted entirely in grade 5 titanium and hand finished, the calibre features an annual calendar and a 60-minute flyback chronograph. The movement is fully visible via the display case back. The 38-jewel automatic movement provides a power reserve of 50 hours.
