Inspired by the Aston Martin, the design of the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX5 World Chronograph Racing ref. 193J420 is the ultimate in refinement and a timepiece that is quite exclusive as only 100 pieces were ever made.
The partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre is not the result of chance but the meeting of the minds. The AMVOX series was born from a rich shared history whose beginnings lie in Jaeger car dials and a reciprocal passion for high watchmaking and beautiful mechanics. The partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin has thus developed around a respect for shared values and a constant quest for technical and aesthetic perfection. The AMVOX5 World Chronograph Racing ref. 193J420 is a perfect example of what bright minds can achieve when joining forces and working together.
The Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX5 World Chronograph Racing ref. 193J420 is fitted with a black ceramic round case measuring 44 mm in diameter and 15.2 mm in thickness. The case is satin-brushed finished with a titanium bezel, case back, crowns and pushers. Unfortunately the crown is not a screw-down, but a simple three position pull-out one. The rectangular titanium chrono pushers feature orange inlays to match the orange back of the strap and to resemble car pedals. A crown is located at 10 o'clock to operate the worldtimer functions on this watch.
The AMVOX5 World Chronograph Racing features a beautiful off-white skeletonized dial with a multi-layer design. The dial features a 12-hour chrono register at 9, a 30-minute chrono register at 3, a small date aperture between 4 and 5 o'clock and a small running seconds indicator at 6 o'clock with the Aston Martin logo on it. To make things even better, this watch is also a worldtimer featuring a beautiful flange with 24 cities/time zones. The dial also features floating Arabic numerals with luminescent material —somewhat weak and not very long lasting— at 12, 2, 4, 8 and 10 o'clock and skeletonized baton hands also with luminescent inlays.
Additionally, the night and day disc around the time zones flange is split in orange and black with a metallic divider that goes across the dial and underneath the central hands pinion. This divider makes the dial somewhat busier and slightly confusing when reading the time. The worldtimer flange features Gaydon instead of London as that is where the Aston Martin headquarters are located.
As you can appreciate in these pictures, the discs on the chrono registers are made of carbon fiber and beautifully accentuated by the white and orange numbers.
The solid case back also is the perfect protection for the Jaeger-LeCoultre automatic calibre 752 composed of 39 jewels, 279 parts, two barrels and which provides a power reserve of 65 hours while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph.
Fitted with a beautiful calfskin racing inspired strap with perforations and a pin buckle, the watch remains true to its automotive essence and its powerful design with its orange contrasting interior lining and contrast stitching. The strap just like on all other AMVOX watches is composed of two different layers with two different textures. While the top layer features more of a rugged finish —almost resembling sail cloth—, the bottom layer —perimeter— looks and feels more like your average soft calfskin.
On the wrist, the watch wears slightly bigger than its size but extremely comfortable. If you are an Aston Martin owner, this watch is a must have in your precious watch collection. Now, if you don't own an Aston Martin, perhaps is time to stop by your dealership and check the new Vanquish or the DB9 and pair it with this gorgeous Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX5 World Chronograph Racing ref. 193J420 that is as light as a feather.
