To celebrate the greatest car race of all time, Chopard presented this year their Mille Miglia Chronograph in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. Finally, comfort and style work in synthesis with short, tapered lugs that embrace the wrist, a dial inspired by vintage car dashboards with a discreet date aperture. This is the only timepiece you'll ever need for cruising the fabled 1,000-mile route from Brescia to Rome and back. The Chopard Mille Miglia is fitted with a robust 46 mm stainless steel case and perfectly paired with a matte brown calfskin strap with double folding clasp.
The Dial
The Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph ref. 168580-3001 features a matte black dial with slate grey chrono counters and a 'rosso corsa' bright red seconds hand. The dial also features transferred Arabic numerals with luminous material and a discreet date aperture at 4:30 with a black calendar disc. While the design is really nice and extremely racing inspired, the dial appears somewhat busy. Regardless, the watch is very nice and a perfect ode to classic car inspired chronographs. The dial features 12-hour chrono register at 9, 30-minute chronograph at 3 and running seconds at 6 o'clock.
The Case
The Chopard Mille Miglia Limited Edition features a highly polished 46 mm stainless steel case with a stepped construction around its bezel, vintage looking pump pushers and a beautiful screw-down crown with an engraving of a three-spoke steering wheel on it. The design is definitely in line with a piece that celebrates one of the most legendary car races of all time, the 1000 Miglia —Mille Miglia— and the watch is water resistant to 50 meters.
The Movement
The beating heart powering this chronograph with flyback function is the COSC Chopard 03.05-C automatic movement with a power reserve of 60 hours. The movement equipped with 45 jewels features a beautifully finished flange where the red 'Mille Miglia' logo is engraved and finished with red lacquer. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph and is fully visible via the display case back.
