The A. Lange & Söhne 1815 Up/Down was updated in 2013 and presented at the SIHH 2013 as one of the novelties from the manufacture. The 1815 Up/Down ref. 234.026 in white gold is one of the most classic looking watches from this manufacture and one of our favorite ones. Also available in pink gold and yellow gold, this watch is now fitted with a case measuring 39mm in diameter —opposed to 36mm in the past— and only 8.7mm in thickness. The case features polished and satin brushed areas to provide a perfectly balanced case that is not only very elegant but extremely well crafted at a level that can only be described with the word 'perfection'.
This fascinating timepiece features hours, minutes, seconds register at 4 o'clock and an Up/Down power reserve indicator at 8 o'clock just like the preceding reference. The solid silver dial is perfectly balanced with black Arabic numerals, minute rail track, blued hands and this updated model now features red accents on the last six hours of the power reserve indicator. A real treat to the eyes.
The 1815 Up/Down is powered by the A. Lange & Söhne manual wound calibre L051.2 composed of 245 parts, 29 jewels —seven of which are screwed in gold chatons—, stop-seconds mechanism and this calibre provides a power reserve of three days when fully wound —the calibre on the original version of the Up and Down only provided 45 hours of power reserve. This gorgeous movement is fully visible through the display case back treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides.
Fitted with a gorgeous black alligator strap with pin buckle the watch wears very comfortably and true to its size. Perhaps a little bit larger but with a perfect fit on a 7-7.25" wrist.
The wrist presence of the 1815 Up/Down is really something else and this is a timepiece that once you start wearing. you won't want to take it off. If you want to have everyone looking at your wrist during that next meeting with the board of directors, make sure you add this A. Lange & Söhne to your collection.
