Last year Hublot released the Square Bang as the first square-shaped watch for the brand. Somewhat reminiscent of the Santos de Cartier is almost impossible not to think of the Santos 100 when looking at this watch from Hublot. This year at Watches & Wonders 2023, Hublot have added several iterations of this watch but one that stands out from the rest is the new Square Bang Unico Sapphire 42 with its transparent sapphire crystal case.
Equipped with a 42 mm case —featuring the Hublot quick strap change system—, the watch is delivered on a clear rubber strap with deployant clasp and its transparency is unparalleled. Featuring an openworked dial construction, the dial layout is well balanced and easy to read with running seconds at 9 o’clock and a 60-minute chrono register with date aperture at 3 o’clock. The crown, pushers, and deployant clasp are made of titanium providing a very nice contrast against the polished sapphire case.
The Hublot Square Bang Unico Sapphire 42 is powered by the new Unico 2 calibre designed to equip smaller chronographs, this movement is based on the HUB1280 UNICO Manufacture Automatic Chronograph Flyback Movement with Column Wheel and provides a 72-hour power reserve.
On the wrist, the new Hublot Square Bang Unico Sapphire 42 wears extremely light at 98 grams to be precise. The look of a sapphire crystal watch on the wrist is unparalleled and this is one of those very special watches that Hublot continues to master with the use of ceramics or sapphire crystal for their cases.
