As an addition to the three other Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis watches released a year ago, the new Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis is now also available in 3D Carbon. With a very unique design offering unique visibility and an all new case design, the MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis 3D Carbon is powered by an in-house calibre that pushes the boundaries in terms of multi-axis tourbillons. With its fascinating double rotation this timepiece perfectly reflects the prevailing philosophy in the design of all of Hublot’s “MPs” —manufacture pieces—, namely to develop an exclusive movement dedicated to a function and to design specific external parts to highlight its beating heart.
The Case & Dial
With a massive case measuring 49 mm in diameter and 17.95 in thickness, the new MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis Tourbillon 3D Carbon Fiber ref. 909.QD.1120.RX is also available in titanium as reference 909.NX.1120.RX limited to 50 pieces, in King Gold as reference 909.OX.1120.RX limited to 20 pieces and in a combination of titatnium with diamond encrusted bezel available in a limited edition of 20 pieces and which we reviewed here. Fitted with a bezel lug in black composite resin, engraved at 9 o'clock and filled with red lacquer, the MP-09 is extremely sporty and somewhat reminiscent of the LaFerrari and water resitant to 30 meters.
The Dial
Its multi-layer dial, offers uncompromised visibility of the bi-axial tourbillon. Thanks to its position at 6 o’clock and a large opening that covers a very complex 3-sided sapphire glass, the gaze of the wearer will literally plunge onto the frantic travel of this bi-axial tourbillon, which overcomes the effects of gravity in a much more subtle manner than an ordinary tourbillon.
Besides this technical specific feature, the MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis also stands out because of its innovative date corrector, which is as ingenious as it is practical. Via a simple winding movement of the lever up or down, the date moves respectively forward or back by a day. Around the hours and minutes subdial at the top, the instantaneous date indicationis arranged in two tiers with half-circles, while the 5-day power reserve indicator is displayed with a gauge-type indicator at 9 o’clock.
The Movement
Turning the new Hublot MP-09 Tourbillon Bi-Axis 3D Carbon reveals the Hublot manual wound calibre HUB9009.H1.RA. This movement features a 5-day power reserve with bi-axial tourbillon that undertakes a complete rotation per minute for the first axis and a rotation every 30 seconds for the second. This means that the dynamic movement—immediately perceptible—of this double tourbillon frame has an appearance that is as fascinating as it is fun.
