Who wants to carry a pencil and a scorecard at the golf course, when you can just keep track of your score on your wrist. After a successful release in 2018, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Golf is now dressed in green like the grass of the narrow fairways at Pebble Beach or the treacherous greens at Augusta. The second iteration of the Big Bang Golf was first presented at the LVMH Dubai Week 2020, exactly two years after the first Big Bang Unico Golf made its appearance with a white/grayish carbon and texalium case at the time.
Things to Know About the Watch
Featuring a 45 mm case in carbon fiber and green texalium upper layer, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Golf green is available in a highly exclusive limited edition of only 100 pieces. While many feel that this watch is a little bit too gimmicky, we think that it is ultra-cool and very functional. Equipped with three pushers —two on the side of the crown and one on the left caseband—, the wearer can keep full track of its score, hole-by-hole for all 18 holes. Three apertures conveniently located around the dial, provide perfect readability of how good or bad your game is going. The number of strokes is indicated by an aperture at 3 o’clock with a bright yellow backdrop, the hole number at 9 and the total score at 6 o’clock.
Keeping your score at the golf course couldn’t be any easier without the hassle of having to write it down. By pressing the pusher at 4 o’clock labeled ‘Hole’, the wearer selects the number for the hole to be played. Then, by pressing the pusher with a yellow insert labeled ‘Shot’ —located at 2 o’clock—, the wearer selects the number of strokes for that particular hole. Lastly, by pressing the round pusher located at 8 o’clock, the wearer resets the total score for the round.
Matching the color of the case, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Golf is delivered with a perforated green calf strap with black rubber insert with carbon fiber texture decor and with a black ceramic and black-plated titanium deployment clasp. An additional black fabric strap with black-plated aluminium pin buckle clasp is also included as a second option.
The Movement
Powering the Big Bang Unico Golf is the Hublot in-house movement HUB1580 with golf mechanism. This 43-jewel automatic movement derived from the HUB1240 features a beautifull skeletonized oscillating weight and when fully wound, it provides a power reserve of 72 hours.
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the Hublot Big Bang Unico Golf in green wears true to its size and quite comfortably. while the pusher at 8 o’clock could be bothersome during a round of golf, we don’t think that it could be that much of a big deal. While we think that the first iteration of the Big Bang Golf is much more appealing with its off-white grey texalium upper layer, this new grass green model is very nice as well. An absolutely brilliant and clever idea of how to ease keeping track of your score in the long referred to ‘gentlemen's game’. Available in a limited edition of 100 pieces.
