Last week at the SIAR 2017, we were able to peruse one of the latest creations from Christophe Claret. The Adagio Minute Repeater Unique Piece in 18K yellow gold not only features a minute repeater but also a dual time function with day/night indicator, date function and running seconds indicator. With a case fully engraved by hand and a cathedral gong, this is for sure one of the most exquisite timepieces that a seasoned watch collector could aspire to own. Equipped with a black alligator strap and a double folding clasp, this watch is the epitome of elegance.
The Dial
Featuring a black onyx dial that is lustrous and glossy as it gets, the Christophe Claret Adagio Minute Repeater Unique Piece features three apertures: running seconds at 9 o'clock, digital double date at 6 o'clock and dual time subdial with day/night indicator between 2 and 3 o'clock.
The Case
Hand engraved for weeks, the 45 mm 18K yellow gold case is a work of art. Featuring renaissance motifs as well as the engraving of five instruments from that era on its lugs and on the actuator for the minute repeater, this unique piece is the ultimate horological treasure. The attention to detail is stellar and the engraving work is one of the best we have seen lately. With two pushers located next to the winding crown, the wearer can set the time on the dual time subdial by pressing the top pusher at 2 o'clock and set the date with the one located at 4 o'clock.
The Movement
Powered by the same manual wound movement that serves as the beating heart of the Christophe Claret Allegro, the in-house calibre ALG89 with a diameter of 34.00 mm is composed of 520 parts and 46 jewels. Fully visible via the display case back, the movement is exquisitely finished. This movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound and is equipped with a cathedral gong.
On the Wrist & Pricing
Fitted with an elegant black alligator leather strap with deployant clasp, the Adagio Minute Repeater Unique Piece wears comfortably and true to its size. While the wrist presence is unparalleled, its minute repeater falls short. Not only the volume of its minute repeater is quite low but the noise from its mechanism can be heard quite loud while the minute repeater is striking its cathedral gong. While we love the creations of Monsieur Christophe Claret, for the price, you can find a much louder and pitch perfect minute repeater elsewhere.
