For 30 years Chopard has been involved with the Mille Miglia Race. To celebrate the occasion, two new chronographs have been released under the Mille Miglia name. These two new vintage inspired looking timepieces are the Mille Miglia 2018 Race Editions, one in stainless steel and the other in a very nice two-tone stainless steel and 18K rose gold combination. Featuring a perfectly sized 42 mm case with a smooth bezel, the anthracite engine-turned dials on these two watches evoke classic car dashboards.
Things to Know About the Watch
While the two-tone reference 168589-6001 is available in a limited edition of only 100 pieces, the stainless steel model ref. 168589-3006 is available in a 1,000-piece limited edition —yes this is not a typo. Honestly, we really don't understand the marketing strategy here and such a big difference in terms of limitation between both models. The Chopard Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition bears the Special Mille Miglia 30 anniversary partnership logo on its display case back and the watches are fitted with perforated leather straps with tire motif rubber lining and bright red contrast stitching. Both watches are water resistant to 50 meters and fitted with screw-down crowns.

The new Chopard Mille Miglia 2018 Racing Edition is powered by a 37-jewel automatic movement that is COSC certified. Fully visible via the display case back, this 12-hour chronograph movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 vph. Unfortunately no information regarding the power reserve was provided to us, so our assumption is that this is probably no more than 42 hours —which is somewhat of a standard in the watch industry. The movement is nicely finished but is nothing out of this world.
On the Wrist & Pricing
On the wrist, the Chopard Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition wears slightly smaller than its actual size and more like a 40 mm watch. While both watches are quite nice, the two-tone model is our favorite one. For the price, these watches are not a bad alternative if you are looking for a 12-hour chronograph with date function in the non-in-house department.
