Following the success of the Octo Tourbillon Finissimo in 2014, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater in 2016 and last year’s Octo Finissimo Automatic, Bulgari decided to add the beauty and understated look of black ceramic to its Octo lineup. Somewhat stealthy and very light, the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Automatic in black ceramic is not your run-of-the-mill timepiece but a feat of horology and mechanics with its ultra slim movement.
Things to Know About the Watch
Its complex, finely structured 40 mm sandblasted black ceramic case draws its strength and beauty from its remarkable design. Emblematic of the integral bond between jewelry savoir-faire and watchmaking art, Bulgari’s approach to working unconventional materials is here employed. The Octo Finissimo Automatic watch with ultra-thin mechanical movement, features a black matte ceramic dial, a ceramic crown set with ceramic element, and a black ceramic bracelet with folding clasp.
The slender case profile just a mere 5.35 mm thick is almost unfathomable. Its monocoque —one piece— construction is based on the principle well mastered by Audemars Piguet and Gerald Genta in 1972 when the Royal Oak was launched with the same type of case construction. The watch is water resistant to 30 meters despite its display case back.
The Movement
Powered by the in-house automatic calibre BVL 138 merely 2.23 mm thick, the movement provides an outstanding power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound. This movement features a platinum micro rotor and small seconds, and is fully decorated by hand with Côtes de Genève, anglage and perlage finishing. The movement is fully visible via the display case back.
