Released at the SIHH 2018 the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar ref. 4010T is one of those watches that screams Vacheron a mile away. Available in platinum ref. 4010T/000P-B345 or in 18K 5N pink gold ref. 4010T/000R-B344, this new watch is the perfect modern expression of the grandeur in watchmaking from the oldest watch manufacture in the world. The new Traditionnelle Traditionnelle Complete Calendar ref. 4010T features a generous 41 mm case with a stepped round construction, angular lugs, slender bezel, a fluted rim on its display case back, railway-type minute track, “bâtons de Genève” hour-markers and dauphine hands. As far as the thickness, our pictures of this watch make it seem thicker than its 10.4 mm.
Things to Know About the Watch
The new Traditionnelle Complete Calendar in platinum features a sand-blasted platinum dial while the 18K 5N pink gold comes with a silvered opaline dial. Issued in a limited edition of 100 pieces the platinum reference is part of the Collection Excellence Platine. The aesthetic signature of this prestigious range is the 950 platinum attiring the case, the sand-blasted dial bearing the secret “Pt950” inscription between 4 and 5 o’clock, as well as the folding clasp.
Additionally, what makes the platinum piece even more special is the moon phase indicator with its ultra realistic moon in bas-relief as well as the blue date numerals and the blued hand for the date indication.
For such a classic complication the dial is very modern looking and well balanced with the day and month apertures in a totally unconventional location. While the day of the week is located at 9 o'clock, the month aperture is at 3 o'clock. The date is indicated around the periphery of the dial with a quarter moon tipped hands. Lastly the moon phase display rises in full glory at 6 o'clock. The remarkably accurate moon phase indication requires just one adjustment every 122 years —compared with 3 years for a standard version.
The Movement
Powered by the in-house automatic movement calibre 2460 QCL, entirely developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin, the movement warrants a power reserve of 40 hours. Composed of 308 parts and featuring a gorgeous 22K gold oscillating weight with barleycorn guilloché motif, the movement is fully visible via the display case back. Of course and as expected from Vacheron Constantin the movement is exquisitely finished and a real treat for the eyes.
On the Wrist & Pricing
On the wrist, the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar ref. 4010T wears true to its actual size and with incredible wrist presence. The platinum reference is delivered on a dark blue alligator leather strap with 950 platinum and silk threads while the 18K 5N pink gold reference is delivered on a dark brown alligator leather strap with large square scales and saddle finish. With two watches as good as these ones is really hard to decide which way to go; however, the warm tones of the pink gold case along with the silvered opaline dial make for a perfect modern interpretation of a timeless classical complication and probably the way to go considering the huge price difference for the platinum 100-piece limited edition.
Sticker Price $39,700 USD in pink gold and $68,500 USD in platinum. For more info on Vacheron Constantin click here.
