On June 18th, 2019, Vacheron Constantin presented the Overseas Dual Time Cory Richards prototype made in collaboration with professional photographer and long-distance explorer Cory Richards. The Vacheron Constantin Cory Richards’ Overseas Prototype featured a 41 mm case in titanium with tantalum underneath the bezel and on the crowns and fitted with a grey blue grained dial, NAC treatment on its movement and a gorgeous 22K pink gold oscillating weight with a motif of Mount Everest and the Himalayas. This prototype was later auctioned by Phillips Watches on December 10th in New York City as part of the Phillips’ Game Changers auction benefiting the National Geographic Society, as Cory Richards has photographed 11 stories for National Geographic Magazine and is deeply committed to extending financial and educational opportunities to the communities that have carried him through his career. Selling for a total of $106,250 USD —including buyer’s fees— the watch almost tripled its original estimate at the Phillips Watches auction.
Vacheron Constantin Overseas ‘Everest’ Limited Editions
Today, the Cory Richards’ Overseas prototype has been the inspiration for two new 150-piece limited edition watches named Overseas ‘Everest’. The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas ‘Everest’ limited editions include the Dual Time ‘Everest’ ref. 7910V/000T-B922 and the Chronograph ‘Everest’ ref. 5510-000T-B923 both fitted with the same grey blue grained dial as the Cory Richards’ prototype.
The biggest differences between Cory’s prototype and the new Overseas ‘Everest’ watches is that the latter feature a stainless steel case —instead of titanium— and a titanium bezel and crowns —instead of tantalum—and there is no orange arrow at the bottom of the bezel near the date pusher for the Dual Time model.
Additionally, the fabric strap on Cory’s prototype has been reimagined and the watches are supplied with a grey Cordura fabric strap with orange contrast stitching and black nubuck leather lining, and with a grey rubber strap with Maltese cross pattern. The straps are secured by a double folding clasp in titanium and stainless steel with half Maltese cross design. Both watches feature a NAC treated movements with 22K pink gold Overseas oscillating weights with a special Everest engraving.
