First released in 2012 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Royal Oak Jumbo ref. 5402, the Royal Oak Extra-Thin Jumbo ref. 15202 is the closest one can get to the original Royal Oak from 1972. After several iterations have been released of this watch in stainless steel, 18K rose gold, 18K yellow gold with green dial for The Hourglass and more recently in 18K yellow gold with two different dials, the saga of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin continues this year at the SIHH 2019 with an 18K white gold case and a pink gold toned dial —very salmon looking at least in these images provided by AP. We’ll have to see once we see the watch in person.
On the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Extra-Thin White Gold ref. 15202BC.OO.1240BC.01 just released, two much-loved pieces of the past come together in this 39 mm model. For the first time, the pink gold-toned “Petite Tapisserie” dial that appeared for the Royal Oak’s 20th anniversary in 1992 is matched with a satin-brushed 18-carat white gold case and bracelet. White gold was only used once in the 1980s for a Royal Oak with a blue dial and diamond-set hour-markers. The watch is still powered by the automatic calibre 2121.
