Discussing ‘Budget Watches’ is not something we do on a very regular basis but more so every now and then whenever we find an inexpensive watch that catches our attention and that we feel is worth talking about. Since today is Friday, why not talk about the latest addition to the Seven Friday lineup. The Seven Friday P1C/04 'Caipi' is as refreshing as a Brazilian caipirinha at the end of the summer months.
Founded and headquartered in Zürich, Switzerland, Seven Friday was launched in 2012 by Dan Niederer and in a matter of months, it became a very interesting 'watch phenomena' thanks to their viral marketing efforts and their huge solid fan base on Instagram. Great design, disruptive marketing strategy, and reasonable pricing have made Seven Friday a great option with a watch market flooded by micro-brands and watches in the under $2K USD range.
The Seven Friday P1C/04 'Caipi' is as Seven Friday as it gets with all the design cues and cool DNA that made the brand an immediate sensation. Cased in white ceramic and stainless steel and inspired by the Brazilian caipirinha, the ‘Caipi’ is a great option priced right at only $1,550 USD.
Things to Know About the Watch
Featuring a square cushion case in white ceramic measuring 47 mm x 47.6 mm, the dial of the watch echoes the crystalline tones of an ice-cold cachaça mixed with lime and sugar and represented by an opaline white outer dial, a silvery-white inner dial, and more opaline white on the base dial. Featuring applied markers and hands in lime yellow —with luminescent material that unfortunately is somewhat weak in brightness—, the dial features a small animated running seconds indicator at 4 o’clock, a balance wheel opening at 7 o’clock, and a 24-hour AM/PM indicator at 9 o’clock.
The highly polished case features quadripartite construction with bezel and middle case in white ceramic, stainless steel case back, and stainless steel ring between the bezel and the case. The crown in white ceramic is of the screw-down type and it features Seven Friday’s logo on it. The white ceramic is of great quality with a nice sheen and color, and the finishing of the stainless steel components is above average considering the price point of this watch.
Turning the watch over reveals a great-looking solid case back featuring a matte insert with the depiction of a lime slice to top off that Brazilian caipirinha you are about to sip down as we wrap up the summer here in the Northern hemisphere. Something we would’ve preferred about this case back would’ve been to omit that the watch is made in China with a Japanese movement. Sometimes ‘less is more.’
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the Seven Friday P1C/04 'Caipi' wears true to its size and is very eye-catching. Its white color palette makes it look like a watch that could’ve been worn by a Star Wars Stormtrooper. Considering its size, the watch wears better on a men’s wrist; however, this is a perfect unisex watch that can complement the ladies’ wrists as well. Taking into consideration the finishing of this watch and its entry-level price, this is a great ‘value for your money’ type of watch. One other thing we love about the Seven Friday P1C/04 'Caipi' is its monochromatic look that can play well year-round. Whether you are sipping a Caipirinha on the beach or a Moscow mule on the ski slopes, this is a sexy watch for sure.
