Today, at the onset of the SIAR Summer Experience in Mexico City, Perrelet unveiled its latest design in the new Turbine ¡Viva México, cabrones! in a limited edition of 50 pieces that is infused with a Mexican patriotic spirit through its colorway and details, the new timepiece celebrates the Mexican spirit. Following previous iterations celebrating Mexico in what started with the Turbine Mexico in 2020, which featured a Mexican Flag on the turbine, followed by the Turbine Mexican Skull in 2022, and most recently, the Turbine Carbon Mexico in 2023, now comes this new watch.
Like its predecessors, the Turbine ¡Viva México, cabrones! features the Mexican national colors in red, green, and white, as well as the nation's coat of arms —a depiction of an eagle clutching a snake in its talons, symbolizing the founding of Tenochtitlan, now known as Mexico City.
The new model also incorporates Perrelet's patented Turbine Technology, a brand hallmark since 2009. Inspired by aeronautical propulsion, this technology consists of twelve blades made of black anodized aluminum, coupled with five tungsten counterweights. These components animate with the slightest wrist movement to reveal intricate designs on the lower dial. Mechanically, this captivating watch is powered by the in-house manufactured caliber P-331-MH, an automatic movement that holds timekeeping certifications from both COSC and Chronofiable. The movement and its entrancing dial are encased in a 41 mm black DLC-coated grade 2 titanium case.
The phrase ¡Viva México, cabrones! is deeply ingrained in Mexican culture, especially during the celebration of the Día de la Independencia on September 15th of each year. Originating in the turbulent years following the Mexican Revolution, specifically in 1923, this phrase was reportedly the last words of Pancho Villa, not being meant to offend, but rather to inspire the continued struggle for the homeland.
The national colors of green, white, and red on the latest Turbine model date back to the Mexican War of Independence. Introduced in 1821, they were first used on the national flag two years later, which includes the nation's coat of arms.
Patented in 2009, the Turbine Technology, inspired by aeronautical propulsion, consists of 12 blades made of black anodized aluminum. This light yet durable material springs to life with the slightest wrist movement. As the turbine spins, it entertainingly reveals the artwork on the watch’s lower dial. This playful effect has allowed Perrelet to explore a wide range of themes in its timepieces, including animals, mythology, eroticism, abstract art, and sports, showcasing boundless creativity
Although primarily decorative, the turbine features a meticulously thought-out design. Its blades, held by five tungsten counterweights, require precise assembly to ensure smooth rotation and return to the resting position after the kinetic energy is exhausted. This flawless operation is a testament to the master watchmakers' expertise at Perrelet.
The dial sports white delta hands coated with luminescent material, and Arabic numerals and hour markers on the flange are highlighted in red to match the central seconds hand. A sapphire crystal glass with double anti-reflective treatment on both sides protects the display and case back. A green rubber strap with a black DLC titanium pin buckle secures the watch to the wrist.
Turning the watch over reveals the automatic movement calibre P-331-MH. Designed and manufactured in-house, this COSC and Chronofiable automatic movement offers a power reserve of 42 hours and beats at a frequency 28,800 vph. The display case back features the phrase ¡Viva México, cabrones! and Edición Limitada —Limited Edition.
