The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time was discontinued a couple of years ago with the release of the new Vacheron Constantin Overseas collection. Today, in preparation for the SIHH 2018, Vacheron Constantin just unveiled at the Dubai Watch Week, the new Overseas Dual Time this time powered by an in-house calibre and boasting a new case design and dial layout. Fitted with a 41 mm case —1.5 millimeters smaller than the previous iteration of the Overseas Dual Time ref. 47450—, the watch is available in either 18K 5N rose gold or stainless steel with its iconic bezel evoking Vacheron Constantin’s famous Maltese cross emblem.
The stainless steel model is fitted with a stainless steel bracelet with half Maltese cross-shaped polished and satin-brushed links and delivered with two additional straps —alligator and rubber— matching the shade of the dial and equipped with an equally interchangeable stainless steel folding clasp. As far as the 18K 5N rose gold model goes, this one is delivered on a brown alligator strap with 18K 5N rose gold folding clasp. While the stainless steel model is available with blue or silver-toned dial, the 18K 5N rose gold reference is only available with a silver-toned dial.
The references are as follows:
- Stainless steel case, blue dial ref. 7900V/110A-B334
- Stainless steel case, silver-toned dial ref. 7900V/110A-B333
- 18K 5N pink gold case, silver-toned dial ref. 7900V/000R-B336
The lacquered dials featured faceted and luminescent gold hands and hour-markers; a double graduation bearing the minutes and seconds scales. While the hours hand indicates the local timezone corresponding to the user’s current location, the hand tipped with a triangular arrow —red in the case of the silver-toned dial— shows the time in a second timezone, generally known as “home time”. A 12-hour indication adjustable via the crown in both directions —position 1: local time, independent jumping adjustment; position 2: home time, dragging adjustment of both timezones and minutes—, along with a day/night indication set to home time, and a pointer-type date display, adjusted and secured via a screw-lock pusher at 4 o’clock and synchronized with local time. To be quite frank, we liked the previous layout on the former Overseas Dual Time much better.
The Movement
The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time is now powered by an in-house movement unlike its predecessor ref. 47450 which was powered by the calibre 1222 SC derived from a Jaeger-LeCoultre movement.
The new 234-part movement is a 37 jewel movement that oscillates at a frequency of 4 Hz —28,800 vph— to provide a 60-hour power reserve thanks to its twin barrel that also ensures its regularity. The new Vacheron Constantin Calibre 5110 DT, stems from several years of development and it features a 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a wind rose.
Pricing
Sticker Price $39,500 USD for 18K rose gold and $24,700 USD for stainless steel. For more info on Vacheron Constantin click here.
