Following the success of the ladies' Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold in 18K rose gold and 18K white gold, Audemars Piguet just announced the new Men's Royal Oak Frosted Gold in a limited edition of only 200 pieces in 18K white gold with a stunning 'grande tapisserie' blue dial under ref. 15410BC.GG.1224BC.01. This watch like the previous models was created in collaboration with Florentine jewellery designer, Carolina Bucci. The new AP Royal Oak Frosted Gold 41 mm was a highly expected release after we spotted this watch on the wrist of Audemars Piguet's CEO François-Henry Bennahmias during the SIHH 2017 and many AP collectors were wondering when this men's 41 mm size would be released. This new watch, is one that for sure will sell out very quickly.
With a breathtaking shimmering sparkle, which comes from a surface treatment process rooted in an ancient gold hammering technique, also called the Florentine technique, Carolina Bucci has reinterpreted this technique in jewellery design today while Audemars Piguet’s experts developed it into a horological craft suited to the unique case and bracelet construction of the Royal Oak.
The main challenge for Audemars Piguet’s craftsmen was to apply this surface treatment technique across the case and bracelet of the watch without altering the clean lines that define the Royal Oak’s form. It took months of trial and error between Bucci’s Florentine craftsmen and Audemars Piguet’s manufacture to alter the surface of the gold in such a way that it sparkles when catching the light, while retaining the softness and flexibility of the Royal Oak’s bracelet. It is a very delicate alchemy to operate: nothing is added, nothing is removed, but the watch is transformed.
The new 41 mm Royal Oak Frosted Gold ref. 15410BC.GG.1224BC.01 is powered by the automatic calibre 3120. This movement composed of 280 parts and 40 jewels, provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound while beating at a frequency of 28,800 vph.
Sticker Price To be Confirmed —our educated guess is that the watch would be at least north of $55,000 USD. For more info on Audemars Piguet click here.
