Swapping a Porsche 911 Carrera S —991— for a Porsche Macan Sport Chrono Package seems like an awful thing to do. While you are forfeiting 152 horsepower as the Macan comes with only 248 hp versus 400 hp on the Carrera S, you are getting a lot more in terms of practicality, functionality, and space without compromising on the fact that you are still driving one helluva Porsche. Furthermore, if you choose to go with a Macan S, a Turbo, a GTS or even a Macan Sport Chrono Package, the sound of its exhaust won’t let you down, as all of these options come with the PSE —Porsche Sport Exhaust— system. In terms of torque, speed and sound, the Macan doesn’t let you down. With a similar color combination —in black, gold and red— as the iconic Porsche crest, we paired this white Macan with the Armin Strom Gravity Date Watch Collecting Lifestyle Unique Piece for the shoot.
While the Macan looks very Porsche in terms of its design and shape —more so than the Cayenne which we don’t love—, it’s not until you decide to get in it where you feel that Porsche DNA intact. From the unique smell of its interior, to the placement of the center console, to the dashboard and panel instrument, this is Porsche territory for sure. Don’t be fooled if anyone tells you that this is like an Audi Q5 as they share the same VW MLB platform. In the case of the Macan, the MLB is just in the name as Porsche made significant improvements and changes to it.
The Macan is an all-wheel drive compact SUV that packs a lot of punch, especially when you are driving it in the Sport Plus mode and using the PDK automatic gearbox. Gear shifting is simply a joy and the sound of the PSE system is to die for.
In reality what you get with a Porsche Macan that you don’t with a 911 is the ability to still feel you are in a Porsche but with tons of room. Not to mention that the panorama roof is simply huge and a real treat for all passengers in the car. Plenty of legroom and headroom, almost 53 cubic feet of trunk space and a car that is very easy to get in and out of it. Not to mention that Porsche never cuts any corners even on its most standard and basic models.
Now, the reason why we say that this is the perfect summer ride is because the Porsche Macan is so versatile that you can drive it like a bat out of hell as if it was a sports car, take it off-road or simply drive your golfing foursome and their four oversized golf bags to the nearest or farthest golf course. In all, the Macan doesn’t disappoint at all and in all honesty it won’t make you miss having a 911, if that’s the only car you will be driving.
Equipped with a turbocharged inline 4-cylinder engine, this all-wheel drive SUV boasts 248 horsepower with a 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung —PDK— automatic transmission and goes from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds when equipped with the Sport Chrono Package. Ideal for busy streets in the city or empty dirt roads in the middle of the countryside, the Macan performs flawlessly everywhere.
In all, a perfect summer ride that gets even better when paired with a Porsche crest color matching Armin Strom Gravity Date Unique Piece and a bright lemon green dress perfectly made for the hot summer months. And the best part is that the ventilated seats are a perfect cooling down method when you are doing a photo shoot in the middle of the summer.
