If you ever dreamed of what a supersized reproduction of an Audemars Piguet movement would look like sitting on your desk, dream no further. Audemars Piguet has just made available what in our opinion is one of the coolest and most incredible watch related items that a watch collector could own. This actual reproduction of a self-winding Audemars Piguet movement that is not the 40-jewel calibre 3120 nor the new 38-jewel calibre 4302, is an exact reproduction of an actual AP movement with all of its components —all of them of course supersized more than hundred or a thousand times. Even the jewels, bridges, the architecture and finishes are exactly done in the exact same way.
The only difference other than the obvious size and weight, is that its oscillating weight is not made of 22K gold as in the actual movement itself. We could only imagine how much this scale reproduction would cost had the rotor been made of actual gold. Just like the movement itself, the reproduction is fully decorated with Côtes de Genève on all bridges, beveling and the rotor even spins in both directions winding the mainspring. Additionally, the balance wheel oscillates when spun.
Underneath the Audemars Piguet engraving on the rotor, we find the Audemars family coat of arms featuring a bird, three stars and a donjon with a flag. To its right, the Piguet family coat of arms featuring a horse holding a sword and three stars. As you can see in the pictures, every detail from the horse's muzzle to the mane and even the tail have been impeccably executed on this Audemars Piguet oversized scale model. On the front side, one can appreciate the calendar disc. Not bad for an incredible piece of horological home or office piece of decor.
