Our second most favorite release from Omega at Baselworld 2017 and a watch that is as good as it gets. The new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in stainless steel with a matte black dial with orange accents is as sporty and racing inspired as a chronograph of this nature should be. This new watch is also available in 18K Sedna gold with deep dark blue dial and it was reviewed by us here.
Things You Need to Know
Fitted with a black matte liquidmetal bezel with tachymetric scale and a matte black dial with alternatingminute-track in racing style —similar to that on the Speedmaster Michael Schumacher limited editions or the Speedmaster Racing ref. 145.0022—, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in stainless steel is further accentuated by its orange square markers and orange hour, minute and seconds hands.
The dial with its well balanced layout allows for excellent readability with running seconds at 9 o'clock with orange hand, date aperture at 6 and a co-axial 12-hour chrono register at 3 o'clock where the elapsed time can be read as a second watch with an hour and a minute hand. Additionally, to guarantee unparalleled readability, the applied hour markers are wider than those on other Speedmasters and with a new arrowhead shape.
The watch is equipped with a new type of strap referred to Omega as 'the sporty strap'. The strap is made of black calf leather with micro-perforations that reveal an orange rubber layer that lies underneath. This orange layer provides a very nice contrasting touch through the perforations. The strap is equipped with a deployant clasp in matching stainless steel.
This new watch is equipped with a generous 44.25 mm case that is relatively thinner to the case on other Speedmasters like the Speedmaster Moonwatch Co-Axial Chronograph. The reason why the case is thinner is because the sapphire crystal on the display case back has been reworked with more rounded shape around the edge and it is more flushed against the case back ring. Powered by a new generation of Omega in-house calibres, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in stainless steel is powered by the master co-axial calibre 9900/9901 certified by METAS —Swiss Federal Institute of Meteorology. This automatic movement featuring a column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch is anti-magnetic to 15,000 gauss. The movement provides a power reserve of 60 hours when fully wound.
On the Wrist & Price
On the wrist, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing Master Chronometer in stainless steel ref. 329.32.44.51.01.001 wears true to its size and with super sporty wrist presence. A racing inspired chronograph that brings the best of Omega to the table; however, nothing groundbreaking here but more of the same that we see year after year from brands like Omega. Nevertheless, a sexy looking watch that we are confident will sell very well and that we would love to own. The watch is also available on matching stainless steel bracelet.
Sticker Price $8,450 USD on strap and $8,550 on bracelet. For more info on Omega click here.
